A Day in the Life of a Blue Angels C-130 "Fat Albert" Pilot featuring Maj Rick Rose | Produced by Ryan Nothhaft, Blue Angel Phantoms Youtube channel and website

Filmed on April 30, 2021

On a rainy Friday in Corpus Christi, TX, Maj Rick Rose, the Blue Angels' 2021 lead C-130 pilot, allowed cameras to follow and document a day in his life on the air show circuit. As you'll see in this video, Maj Rose starts everyday by waking up at 5AM to gather his thoughts and start preparing for his day. Dedicated to physical fitness, Maj Rose is at the gym by 6AM for an hour long workout, warming up with a 6 minute mile on a treadmill before transitioning to free weights.

As the day progresses. Maj Rose redirects his attention to community outreach, an important facet of the Blue Angels' mission and part of the job that resinates with him on a personal level. Relegated to a virtual engagement with a group of high school students as a result of the COVID pandemic, Maj Rose shares his personal journey to becoming a pilot before fielding questions from the engaged teenagers.

On this particular afternoon, the Fat Albert crew has a joint mission planned with the U.S. Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs. Meeting in the cargo hold of Fat Albert, Maj Rose briefs his plan to fly the Leap Frogs to their destination where they'll execute their jump, however, the mission is put on hold due to severe weather in the area.

Maj Rose and the Fat Albert crew will then shift focus yet again and start planning for their own air show participation where they will fly what they call "Circles and Arrivals" where they will fly over the air show site and identify key landmarks on the ground to establish their parameters for a safe demonstration. Unfortunately, these logistics were also canceled due to weather.

Special thanks to the 2021 U.S. Navy Blue Angels for granting permission to film these activities.
