2022 Honda Civic Hatchback review by The Straight Pipes. The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring is putting down 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque from a 1.5L Turbo 4 cylinder. At $35,000 CAD, would you take it over the Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Altima?

When I was shopping for cars, I found the box test really useful to understand how practical a vehicle could be. I would really hate to see you all remove a cargo measure from your reviews.

The box test is LITERALLY what sold my mom on her Forester and the Rav4 when she had it in her options. It's such a useful test, and for EVs can definitely be useful especially with the Frunks. Hopefully it sticks around because it's such a unique measurement that makes so much sense.

I appreciate the decibel test as a car guy but the box test helps with gauging practicality as a consumer, I vote keep the box test!!!

You guys just do killer reviews! The balance between information, cinematics, and entertainment is crazy good!

Please don’t get rid of the box test! It’s so helpful!!

The box test is far more important than the external decibel test. In fact, the box test is one of the best things you do, since no one else online provides such a great cross-shoppable/comparable method of measuring real-world storage capacity. If you're going to test decibels, it needs to be the interior decibels, since that's what you live with as the driver every day. Unless you're talking about an exotic supercar or a muscle car, no one cares how the car sounds from the outside.

Keep the box test forever. Apply the decibel test to the interior, not the exterior.

Keep the box test please, more informative than the decibel test.

My calling! hey guys acoustic test engineer here. love the addition of the sound pressure level test. Glad you guys are not using a cellphone mic for the test, a dedicated microphone is 100x better. overall the metric is ok (so long as the same person is doing the 4 steps away) you guys seem to be measuring peak sound level so anything with crackles and pops (the fun stuff) might be in the 98-100dB range and isnt really comparable., little nerdy sound fact: Decibels are actually a logarithmic ratio and thus unitless. you can have decibels for sound, velocity, voltage, acceleration anything really. but the key little nerd fact for what your measuring is that every doubling of distance is only -3dB. so if you went 8 steps away from the Honda element, you would get a measurement of 74dB... 16 steps 71dB. also keep an eye on whats behind the camera and mic because you might get a false reading if there is a wall behind you due to reflection. Love the content keep of the great work and thank you for the little soap box for an acoustic rant

"if you are a sedan shopper and you dont like hatchback just get the hatchback" YES definitely YES I agree that's why I love this type of hatchback / "sportsback"

I have a 2022 civic touring sedan. Just to touch on a couple points you guys made, the infotainment screen is nice and fast after the car has been on for a while. After a proper cold start it is so laggy.. it literally does take a couple minutes before you can actually interact with it.

The gloss black on the dash is no big deal because it’s not something you touch regularly.

Other than that the car has been awesome. It’s such a nice little daily/commuter car. Definitely worth the money I spent. I bought it because of your initial reviews!!

Keep the box test for the practical cars please. Also it's pretty jokes to see mid engine cars barely be able to fit one box 😂

Please keep the box test! It's probably one of the most practical measures of volume rather than trying to compare spec sheets. Plus it's pretty on brand with you guys along with the visor test.

Can I just say, as an owner of the last gen civic hatch, I wish they kept the 1.5T power plant through all the trims. I don't appreciate needing to spend 35K on a hatch just for that. I have the regular Sport in manual (Not sport touring) and it was the sweet spot for last gen. This gen at the same price I would only walk away with the anemic 2.0 NA :(

one of the reasons why you guys are the best is the box test!! it’s actually a pretty useful real-world test

Please keep the box test for cars that regular people can afford, its more practical.
Do the decibel test for crazy cars where you know we are just watching for entertainment.
