Swifts are summer visitors, breeding across the UK, but are most numerous in the south and east. Spending their winters in Africa, Swifts migrate 3,400 miles twice a year, stopping off to refuel in places like Portugal and France along the way.

The latest I've spotted them in the UK was early October. Driving on the M6 back from Manchester AP a few years back there were half a dozen flying south before Keele services.
Upto then I didn't realise they stayed in the UK much after mid August so was very surprised to see them.

Not seen so many nowadays flying high up in the sky 🌌 where I live. A few yrs ago a few flew across the height of my 🏡 in my back garden 🪴

A good map but its flawed. 15, 000 miles is very wrong. To drive from Belfast to Mozambique via west African and home is 28, 000 miles. If a swift flew just 10 miles per day for 10 months its 10milesx24hoursx300days=72, 000 miles
