The Portland Bird Migration | Swifts Come To Oregon

The Portland swifts (birds similar to sparrows) migrate to Portland every year in September. For nearly a month, the birds show up to Chapman Elementary School at sunset in the thousands to roost in the chimney. The swifts are on their migration to South America, and for years they have been making a pit stop in Portland to spend several weeks in the area. Sometimes a hawk will wait around to snatch one up for dinner. Tonight, there are around 10,000 swifts. This is one of the largest, if not the very largest migration of swifts we know.

It was difficult to film the birds, and you probably can't get the same feeling, but it was an incredible experience and I recommend it to anybody in Portland in September.

Cool video, but except for being (a) birds, (b) brown, and (c) smaller than a robin, swifts are not the least bit similar to sparrows.
