The ships were build in my hometown: Kiel, the capital of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. We are very proud of our shipyards, but it is no secret that they are in financial difficulties. Therefore, it is no wonder that the German government subsidizes the ships for Israel (in the end, this is also structural policy for the region)

So the money went from the German State to a German shipyard to secure jobs. It effectively staid inside the country and stimulated the economy.

And Israel happened to get some ships out of it.

It’s crazy to think, a single Ford class carrier still has nearly 7 times the displacement of the entire Israeli navy.

After the Submarine Deal between Israel and Germany, Turkey and Egypt also ordered the German U-Boot class 209. So in the end, it was a good Deal for Germany

I don’t understand where does it say that Germany paid for it entirely? Them giving a discount is just part of an arms deal that’s how it works.. they want customers around the world to buy from them so they offer deals and lower prices.

funny how the algorithm decided this was the video to push two years after release. And people seem to not get that and get mad

I think that's the first time I've ever heard a group of Jews thanking Germany.

Intro: "Did Germany help pay for those?"
Title: "And Germany helped pay for it"
Me: Well that was anti-climactic

'course we did, Israel is allowed to purchase weapons up to certain amount (don't know how much it is currently) for "free" from Germany...hell, we've sold them submarines, which were modified to launch cruise missiles (regular German subs can't do that), so in theory Israel has budget nuclear weapon subs!

Germany want to be less depend on Russian gas so they help Israel with its envy, they want Israel and Greece to build the gas’s pipe and it need to be safe, that’s one reason. The second reason it’s because they still need to pay some of the life toll they took in ww2 and it’s a cheaper way to pay instead of pure money. The third reason is that their warship’s industry, it need to work all the time or it will become economic burden for Germany to maintain its very expensive shipyards without orders on their way, and if in the future German will want to rebuild it’s navy they will have to pay a lot more for reopen its ship industry from zero again. That’s why they need to keep build ships and subs nonstop. Add the fact that it’s for a friend country (and not for free - only a discount) and you get a great deal for both sides

germany should help their own military first instead of helping others and letting their own soldier being poorly equipped

Germany needs to focus on its own Navy. Seriously.

Fun fact: I actually saw the Oz passing through the Kiel Canal towards the North Sea end as i passed over the Rendsburg Train Bridge. Sadly, i didn't get my camera out in time to make a photo of it before a tree group obstructed my view, so i only got a bit of the superstructure.

It‘s pretty impressive to see Israel with a coast lenght of 173 km have multiple submarines and corvettes with a small budget for the navy, while for example Croatia with 1‘777 km coastal lenght just has some missile boats, transport ships and patrol boats.

They may have doubled but the part with 'increasing their reach' and being 'not shorebound anymore' with showing the strenght of their neighbour is a bit wrong I think. In case of war I think that the navy will still be close to the mainland and only in a defence role until the other sides navy got either decimated or the support of bigger navies is assured.
