There are several reasons to why it's difficult to buy a house in the US nowadays. These include limited housing inventory, high inflation rates, high demand, rising home prices, tight lending standards, debt, and low wages. But then again home affordability can vary from one State to another, for example Property prices in States near the Pacific coast and Northeast parts is higher then in the Midwest and the South. While investing in a underdeveloped state may not sound appealing at first, but that doesn’t mean one shouldn’t consider options in more budget-friendly states.

I lived in Oklahoma for a few years and I didn’t like it. Reasons: Tornados after Tornados. Tornado Alley includes Northern Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. Tornado seasons are from March - July and October- November. During the tornado seasons, tornado or severe thunderstorms can come anytime…and you can’t outrun them because they cover over so many counties (sometimes over 15 counties). The safest way is to have a ground tornado shelter. Also, low-paying jobs cause lots of people unable to buy houses (many live in mobile homes). Sorry, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas are not for me.

All these track houses barely 10 feet apart with no fence in between. You get what you pay for.

Get what you pay for. Home prices is not the only attraction. No is interested in low-wage, rural, uneducated states with poor infrastructure and healthcare.

It may be cheap here to buy a house .... (Louisiana) but just .... no. Betweeen the flood insurance .... the horrifically low income rates across all industries .... this isn't just a Louisiana thing but its worth noting that across the gulf south you have to remember the attic is for the most part not usable because of humidity and we don't have basements .... like ... just don't.
