2017 BMW 430i Coolant Tube Repair - now a recall
Показать описание
****Update**** - If you don't find any leaks, but coolant is just low, an even simpler problem is the coolant reservoir cap. Just had this happened to ours as well. I had to pressure test the system to verify, but it was just the cap/o-ring that had a very slow leak. ****

This is now a RECALL ITEM. If this happens to your car, or hasn’t happened yet, the dealer will replace this hose free of charge. 😁 **
I'm sorry for the poor filming skills and that I filmed it in portrait. I think the information is more than worth it if you have this problem though. This is my first video. I couldn't find any other videos on repairing this car and wanted to save some of you the hours I spent looking for this @#$%^ hose.
This shows how to easily replace a broken coolant tube from the expansion or reservoir tank to the cylinder head. It's on a 2017 BMW 430i Convertible that lost all its coolant suddenly when the 17-12-8-677-244 coolant hose or tube, superseded to 17-12-5-A05-950, broke suddenly at the fitting on the cylinder head. Within seconds it evacuated most of the coolant and the car told my wife to drive easy because the engine was getting too warm. Within a few more seconds it told her to pull over immediately, shut the engine off, and allow it to cool. The coolant temperature gauge never showed anything out of the ordinary.
I'm a little ticked that the hose broke at only 3.5 years old and 60,000 miles on a $45,000 car, but I'm really glad that the engineers thought to put a temperature sensor on the head so it can tell it's overheating even when there is no coolant going past the coolant sensor. As far as I can tell no permanent damage was done to the engine.
