I really don't think the majority of Windows 10 users will even bother to pay for updates (if they are even aware their PC is not being updated or that the updates are available through a subscription), especially in this economy.

What I wanted to do was skip over 11 to 12. I do wonder how PC sales would have gone if Microsoft had stuck to what people expected and bring 12 out this autumn, instead of another feature update for 11 and calling it 24H2. Is 24H2 12 in all but name?

Will the extended support cost be per PC or per account that has several separate installs?

Everyone should know your operating system is the first line of defence

I well remember support for Vista ending. I had the PC at the start of Vista. I didn't want one, but as I had just retired I missed the things I did on my works ones (XP). We'd gone from PET's to systems with green screens etc. When I fired up the one I bought I was knocked out by all the things it could do, photos, WP, browsers, etc. were there on it out of the box. The windows 10 replacement was a disaster, only icon on desktop - a recycle bin. It had nothing on it, and I - like many others have since told me- ran the old PC alongside for months whilst we tinkered with the new one. It has never to this day had the functionality of the Vista one. If I buy a Windows 11 one, that probably won't convert to Windows 12 that is being talked about, I expect it will be another fiasco. But what solution is; I've no idea. Just my observations! 😊

The average user doesn't care about the operating system. They just need to use the apps they use, such as writing a letter, spreadsheet or database etc etc etc.

It is true Windows does more than Linux, but the truth is that most Windows users don't really utilise this wide spectrum of functionality. Linux would satisfy their needs easily. And the reason why Windows is mainstream in PCs and laptops, is because the majority of those machines come with Windows preinstalled. It has almost a monopoly on the market. Mac is a minority alternative. It is like a religion: most folks are born into it, never tried anything else, and will stick to it for the rest of their lives. Only a few will dare to switch to another, or ditch it completely. And as the mobile trend grows, Windows and computers in general, are gradually replaced by mobile devices, where Android is in the lead. And people swear by it. And what is Android based on? Let's go back to the religion argument...

The fact that windows 10 and windows 11 are pretty much the same in most ways putting out updates would not be a big problem. I have no intention of buying a new PC until I want to and not when Microsoft wants me to. so I will just be staying with 10 for a good few years yet.

People are angry that MS is telling them what they can and cannot do with the machine they bought and paid for. There is no excuse for me to be blocked from using Linux, or some app I wish to use. This is inexcusable.

Why does Windows keep upgrading their OS it's because it's their way of being able to say Hey we need more security updates. The fear of security is what brings money to them. 30+ years of security updates and they still need more and more. We don't need to fix the security we just need to modify it so we will always need to patch it. I know it's a simple way to look at it but it's basically how they work.

I was running unsupported Windows 11 on my 10 year old HP ElteDesk 800. I want to keep up with security since I do my banking and other on the computer. So I found s good deal on a new desktop that came with Windows 11 pro. it has all the TPM and everything to keep going to 24H2 and hopefully beyond. I figured it was time to replace a 10 plus year old computer. I was putting it off for a long time.
