Red/Blue still allow you to select any of the three starters. It’s just yellow that forces a starter since it’s pikachu because of the anime

It's actually so funny watching this, because I got the same gameboy in a different color with a gran turismo design on it with like 20 games when I was a kid, some of them were Tetris, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon yellow, Mario&Luigi, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Tony Hawk etc.. And I have kept and added more games proudly since then:}
And luckily my partner has a gameboy too so we can play together
