Latest from Rosetta

Three years after the Rosetta mission officially ended in 2016, scientists met at ESA’s ESTEC facility in The Netherlands to discuss the latest findings at the final Science Working Team (SWT) meeting.

From the launch in 2004, to its arrival at comet 67P in 2014, Rosetta has been an emotional and inspiring mission. Its findings have furthered our understanding of comets and changed our perceptions of how the Solar System formed.

The mission produced an enormous amount of data which will keep many scientists busy for years. The OSIRIS camera, for example, took 100 000 images. These are archived - with the analysis of images recently providing further insight into the comet’s activity.

Rosetta’s legacy of cometary science and data is not just continuing to produce more work, however, it’s also inspiring the next generation of scientists. Some began working on Rosetta as students and are now taking their experience forward onto ESA’s future Comet Interceptor mission.

I'm still completely amazed that you actually intercepted that miniscule object at such a vast distance. Simply astonishing!

I remember sitting in a uni lecture when the news bulletin came in with the photographs from orbit and it gave me shivers. It still blows me away that there are close-up photos of an object only a few miles across travelling at 10s of thousands of mph, which we managed to intercept with an orbiter. I think it's maybe my favourite space mission

I absolutely adore how you guys talk about your past projects and even the new ones! Good luck getting a game developer to segue into their next project while being interviewed. You guys rock!

I was thirteen when Apollo 11 landed the first humans on the moon my first introduction to what our species might achieve; but it was Rosetta & Phillae that re-ignited my interest.

There is something about seeing even simple activity like a boulder rolling down a hill. Don' ask me why, but these images always give me a sense of peace & solitude. I'd like to just sit on it & wonder what it's "seen" over the millions of years it's travelled through space.

Rosetta-teams' experiences and knowledge - well described in the book written by Mr. Ferri - are a precious and priceless treasure.

His book has become my point of reference, a behavioral guide.

I thank you deeply for this gift

Nice human interest story but what about the science? What exactly did we learn? How did change our view of the formation of the solar system? Or the beginning of life? What did we learn from Rosetta?

Easa keep updating your upcoming missions and share the knowledge to us. Got goosebumps when I saw the picture of the lander
