You might think, "Hey, I just need one great iPad," but I'm here to challenge that assumption. As a tech reviewer, I'm an edge case. I own lots of iPads, new and old, because I talk about them here on this channel. Surprise, though: I actually make use of 5 different iPads! One iPad is great... but more than one iPad is even more great! In this video I'll tell you about how I use my two "main" iPads along with uses I've found for my older iPads as well. I'll even give you some extra tips on ways you can recycle or re-use aging iPads in your house!

I can’t even put my iPad Pro to everyday use and this guy has multiple in his workflow...I like it 💪

I use my 12.9 for taking notes, responding to work e-mails, watching videos on YouTube.
The Mini I use as my commuting iPad. It has some graphic novels/comics on it that I can’t read on my Kindle due to the e-ink display.

I have my 1st gen on a nice stand in the bedroom. It defaults as a clock, but it’s hooked up to some speakers to stream music.

I kept my iPad Air 2 to keep in my music bag when I bought my iPad Pro. I’m a musician who plays contra, English & Regency period dances. All that music is on my iPad Pro 12.9” (& I LOVE IT) over 4, 000 tunes. I also have most of them on the old iPad to keep with me instead of carrying around a ton of music books, If a piece of music comes up that someone in the band needs, I hand them the iPad Air. My husband uses the Air when we go to music jams. The app, ForScore lets me make set lists that I can AirDrop to the second iPad so I’m almost always prepared for any situation that comes up.

I use my iPhone 6s Plus for reading and almost everything else. I have a library app to download books and audiobooks FOR FREE, and I have the kindel app to download inexpensive ebooks thru BookBub a daily email that offers several inexpensive or free books from either Apple or Amazon. Once you get used to reading on the larger phone, it’s quite easy, not as heavy as any of the iPads so it suits me. Seeing another application reminds me, I pay for cell service $10 per month just as a backup so when on vacation in our older Captiva, we use it as gps mapper and the display is really nice to have.

Let me start by saying, I love your videos. I love the relaxed pace of your voice and your editing. Very refreshing in such a fast paced industry. We use 3 iPads. I have a 12" pro for work, email, etc. We have an old iPad Air 2 we use as a dedicated Harmony and Alexa remote. And then an old iPad Mini 4 we use for home automation in our bedroom. I think it is great to have all these additional uses for older devices. And often feel, I will get more use from them than the money to resell them. Thanks again man, love the work!!!

Agreed. I use iPad Pro 3rd gen for productivity, music reading, note taking and media consumption. iPad 6th gen for GarageBand and teaching and a portable travel device.

I have an old iPad mini that’s perfect in our RV as an engine instrument display set using a cheap OBD II WiFi plug in.

Great video Chris❗️My wife and I both use 2 iPads, I keep one here next to my recliner for Youtube, texts and email and the other, my new iPad Pro I am using in my office. My wife uses her old iPad for Facebook, email and her new one she has setup with the local College so she can make assignments, post grades and communicate with her students. ❗️👍✅

This trick applies to older phones as well:

I like to repurpose my ipad as a GPS device. I will download an offline maps. This is so my rider can use my phone for music without having to multitask the GPS directions.

This video definitely helped, I have an iPad 6 lying around and I didn’t know what to do with it. But after this video, I decided to have it as a stand by second monitor

Me with a 2018 iPad, with the amazing battery of the Pro and the versatility of the Mini, just with a 30 bucks dongle, nothing to complain for now

It’s true that this is a first world issue, but it helps third world places everytime we find a use for tech that keeps it out of the dump here or in China. I gave my first iPad (one sold to me by a friend when she bought a Pro) to my grandson who loves making videos on his 13” Mac Laptop. Now, though, I’m honest enough to admit I like the idea of keeping one by my recliner that somebody mentioned below. Thanks, Chris, for reminding us that things can be recycled in inventive ways that make life better.

Great video! As for uses for an older iPad, I kept my first gen iPad Pro to use for watching YouTube videos, the evening news, or even movies while exercising on my exercise bike. The other thing I have toyed with is mounting an iPad to the wall to use as a control panel for my HomeKit appliances, particularly Hue lights.

I agree with you about the iPad mini 5 being ideal for reading. If you orient it in portrait mode, it’s almost exactly the size of a trade paperback. And if you want to switch to the audiobook version of a particular title, all you have to do is launch the Audible app. While I much prefer the formatting and pagination in Apple Books, there are a number of titles you can buy on the Kindle that can include the Audible book version for a pittance more (often just $1.99)—and then Amazon can keep your reading and listening in synch via Whispersynch. If I can get this deal on a book, then I’ll buy it for the Kindle; otherwise I’ll get the Apple Books version. And in either case, the only device I need to read and listen is my iPad mini 5. Movies get watched and work gets done on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro.
