I had to get away from original hardware due to increasing prices mostly, but honestly it shouldn't matter how you play the games, just have fun. Personally, I've gone the mini console route for the most part, I really enjoy the Sega and Nintendo classic minis especially.

I play my retrogames from time to time and it makes me feel good. In my opinion, everybody can enjoy it despite the age. If people played games more often, the world would be a better place!

I am in my early 60's and I didn't have these consoles growing up. We couldn't afford it. I have learnt so much of what I know about retrogaming from channels like yours. I am happy that I recently gave one of my retrogaming handhelds to my daughter's friend and he is using it. Sadly, it seems like whatever interest I follow, I see gatekeepers saying, "you can't do that!" or "that's wrong". I don't care about me, I'm way past that. It's the people without decades of thick skin that suffer.

Very well said! I have no time for gatekeepers. I play retro games on new gear and old gear and my sons join in too - more power to those who just want to have fun!

That is why social media sucks. It's not just retro games. There are idiots who will shame anything out there because they are miserable people.

Mid 50’s gamer here 😂 Happy to share my love of games with anyone else that loves them . Even my 10 year old niece who is just getting into games 😊

Seeing 20 to 30-somethings playing and reviewing games that I enjoyed as a child warms my heart. When I played NES or SNES games, or other systems of that generation, that technology was state-of-the-art. Today, with so many superior options, younger players can review these games more objectively than I ever could have.

This rule doesn't apply to games I missed back then. I can judge them quite honestly, though I still appreciate a younger set of eyes.

It's gaming. It's about the games. Sharing the games is all that matters.

I feel like I'm the opposite of a gatekeeper. If someone of a younger generation is getting interested in something I know a lot about I love gushing out answers to anything they may have questions on and if it's something physical, I tend to give things away to stoke the fire of interest. I'll give them an extra copy of a game or a hard to get a hold of cable or anything else to help them along on this new journey they are on. Part of the fun in gaming for me is seeing other people have fun too. And if they've some nugget of knowledge on the subject I've never heard before it's a bonus for me, not a badge of dishonor lol

I still remember the day I braught my C64 home. I still remember the day I played my original playstation. I still remember the day I introduced it to my oldest son and he looked at it as I did with the same eyes. What makes retro gaming timeless is the feeling it brings and that does not skip a generation. People should be proud that this legacy still lingers on, that in these times of modern AAA high polygon counts and hardware that is a 1000x as powerful as what we used to use, people still find the need to sit back, reflect on and play these games. It makes retro gaming an eternal live an eternal life, a story that still will be told long after we will be gone.

Well said. I think it's a shame as I remember growing up and wanting to share stuff like this. Best time I had recently was having a beer and playing Ninja Turtles at the gaming cafe with a friend. And it's especially sad when someone can't share in a parent sharing their joy with their kids.

Here's the secret to playing games properly. Ask yourself, 'am I having fun?' if the answer is yes - congratulations! You're doing it right.

I appreciate your videos where you air out your experiences. I've been playing games since the NES/Game Boy Era and truly enjoy your content. Keep up the good work!

Gatekeepers are a blight upon internet discourse among any fandom. Shining a light on them, and making it known that such behaviour is not okay, is important. Thank you for this video.

I just wanted to give you a message of support. My wife and I regularly watch your videos and find them to be interesting and entertaining... and perhaps most importantly, easily accessible. As someone who has lived through the eras of 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit and now 64 bit computing and gaming, please be assured that not everyone is like those that you are unfortunately running into online. Yes I even had a ZX Spectrum... two of them over the years in fact! Some of us are actually really happy that our passions can be understood better and shared by others and you are really helping with that. Keep going, your channel is brilliant.

I’m sorry you go through this. Most every person in the retro gaming community are understanding and great people who show great joy for their games.

Couldn’t agree more with your video. You speak a lot of sense here and painful truths of this hobby. It’s a hobby for everyone to enjoy regardless of age, gender or knowledge. Love your work.

The first 2 minutes really hits home. Youre right. I know a lot now about this stuff but I learned from videos like yours, and was able to learn quickly thank you

The content on my channel is more general as well. I know that there are people out there that know all there is to know about consoles and rare and obscure games. But there are people that don't know and enjoy learning about these things. And that makes me happy. Keep bringing us the great content.
