Song Lyrics:

Sometimes, you look the same
Just like you did before the accident
When you're starin' into space
It's hard to believe you don't remember it
Woke up in the ambulance
You pieced it all together on the drive

[Chorus]
I know you don't remember calling me
But I told you even then you looked so pretty
In a hospital bed, I remember you said
You were scared
And so was I

[Verse 2]
In a standstill on the 5
Thought it was unusually early traffic
Usually, I don't panic
I just wanted to be on time
When I saw the ambulances on the shoulder
I didn't even think of pullin' over
I pieced it all together late that night

[Chorus]
And I know you don't remember calling me
But I told you even then you looked so pretty
In a hospital bed, I remember you said
You were scared
And so was I

[Bridge]
What if it happened to you on a different day?
On a bridge where there wasn't a rail in the way?
Or a neighborhood street where the little kids play?
Or the Angeles Crest in the snow or the rain?
What if you weren't alone? There were kids in the car
What if you were remote? No one knows where you are
If you changed anything, would you not have survived?
You're alive, you're alive, you're alive
[Chorus]
And I know you don't remember calling me
But I told you even then you looked so pretty
In your hospital bed, I remember you said
You were scared
And so am I

can we talk about how amazing the part with the one breath is? I mean it perfectly resembles a panic attack, the overthinking, the million questions going through your head and she sings it slightly slower than the harmonies which shows how it feels like everything is happening all at once while it still feels like it takes an eternity to end and how everything goes silent after it's done

“What if it happened to you on a different day?”
It did happen.
I lost my best friend to a car accident that took her life. Not even two months later, I was passenger in a violent car crash with two of my close friends. I woke up in the hospital almost a week later, and learned my friends had died before they even reached the hospital. I was the only survivor of the crash.
I’ve never cried harder because of a song, and yet it’s so beautiful. I felt like this song was ripped directly from my own life.

This is my favorite part, although I can’t exactly explain why. I get chills every single time I hear it, and it make me have this feeling that I can’t describe. The “you’re alive, you’re alive, your alive” sounds almost like a question/realization and it’s really odd

My mom was in a car accident a few years ago, and holy shit these lyrics perfectly describe some of the thoughts and feelings I’ve had about it.

Thinking about my dad listening to this song. He was driving to work when he had a widow maker heart attack. There was a hospital on the road so he was able to pull off and go right in. He coded twice. He was on vacation from his main job and going into his second job earlier than usual. His doctor made it very clear that if he was at his main job or at home when it happened, he would not have survived, and the only reason he did was because he just happened to be right outside the hospital when it happened. That man deserves the world and more.

I cant say I'm a fan of her, or her music, but this song, especially the bridge, has it's charm. The way it feels... it feels like my anxiety, and the relief that washes over me after the bad passes, or I crumble under the pressure. It feels like releasing a breath you didn't know you were holding.

This hits so close to home. When I was 18, I jumped off of an overpass next to my house, leaving me permanently disabled. It was rush hour traffic, but I was pulled to the side of the road by some amazing humans and survived. My sister (who was always there at the hospital with me) sent me this and told me it made her think of me

This song makes me cry, I’m a high school student who lost my best friend who was struck by a train right in front of me next to our school and I cried so hard the whole way home. We had plans to go out the next day. I love her so much and miss her just as much. She was so loyal and absolutely gorgeous.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
