You're a humble fellow. I really appreciate your perspective in a sea of overblown personalities on YT.

Dude, first time viewing - subscribed - so what I am about to say is not aimed at you, but very much towards street photography and social media street photography in general. Everyone is on a journey, and we are all learning, but social media has made the genre stale because so many follow a formula for easy likes. We shoot, post, get likes and comments, shot, post ad infinitum, but the content only develops within those close confines. Street has changed massively in recent years, but it seems to be caught in a loop and I think in part this is where frustration comes in. I liked you piece because it showed humility and a desire to take your skills to a new place. You are totally correct that not every shot needs to be a banger, but also pushing oneself to try new shots finds new skills and also 'happy little accidents' as Bob Ross used to say. Themes and projects are the way forward for both amateur and professional, so you are definitely doing the right thing. I look forward to watching more of you content to see where you go.

Yep well said. Everyone takes bad photos. Artists rarely share the bad work, or the work that it took to get to the work they do share but it nonetheless exists. I like to think of my art as the journey more than the destination. The destination is important but I also really enjoy the process and enjoying the craft and that's important too.

All that said though, I really liked the photos you shared today!

You on the right track bro. You said it yourself just gotta put in the work. Trust I feel the same way. Just gotta be aware and confident in sharing my failures till I reach the success.

For all of us the majority of our photos are gonna be bad. Anybody who says different is just lying. Like you said yourself that is okay. It’s all part of it. I think when we start losing some of the fun in taking photos that’s when we need to take heed. It’s easy nowadays with social media and all to get a little frustrated but when you keep shooting for yourself and you keep that “fun” aspect alive you will gradually become a better photographer and often I feel that this inherent gradualness of the process of becoming better is what subconsciously frustrates us. It’s a lifetime process, just don’t lose the fun in it.

I believe this happens because you gain experience over time. What you look for and what you notice, both in composition and in technique, evolves as you gain more experience. You're good man, keep on with it. I do think themes help, just as a way to focus your mind and give some weight to what you're doing. Doesn't matter what it is, just helps to pick something that works for you.

definitely agree with you that all photos have a purpose. whether its for practice, or being a small part of the story. thanks for being honest Chris, enjoyed this video.

This photo is going to be in a museum 😂 I think with enough time you can end up hating any photo you make. I think that just shows your taste and skills are evolving, hence, you’re growing as a photographer. I love that tree randomly growing out the tarmac. It probably started out as a weed. Totally with you on coming up with a theme to connect the photos together.

Man this really made me miss Japan! Great video dude, super interesting insight. I feel my opinion changes on the photos I take, some days I feel like I'm making waves towards getting good, other days I feel like there's very few photos of mine I admire haha So I feel you!

My next photo is always 'the one'. That keeps me going.

I've also found the photos I keep returning to time and again, tend to be of my family and friends.

That's me right now and the lockdown in London doesn't help, the last time I went through this. . . . Questioning my photography, I saw this short film on YouTube about Saul Leiter. He was going through one of his filmstrips, out of 35 images he didn't like 34 of them. At the time this was an eye-opener for me, who thinks great photographers take bad pictures.
