Lots of people own guns. Tank owners are a rare breed. WSJ's Michael M. Phillips goes for a wild ride in a WWII Chaffee tank owned by Bill Bauer of Port Lavaca, Texas.

wait, the cops respond in a regular car, to reports of a tank in the area, seriously? if the guy was dangerous, they'd already be a smoking wreck.

"You know why we're here right...

...TO DRIVE YOUR WICKED AWESOME TANK!" I'm sure that's not the first time the police show up to his place so I'm sure they're used to it.

WWII American tanks were produced in much greater numbers than WWII German tanks. This means that WWII German tanks for sale are much more expensive and rarer to find.

I wonder what goes through a head of a police officer who has to respond to this call from a dispatcher.
"Umgh, I am just going to pull next to him and ask him for the license and registration?"
Jeez...

Lol. You 'fire' the 50 caliber. Cops instantly show up like "You shooting things over here?" Nah, just making the gases make the noise that comes from that. :3

Dispatch: Yeah there's a tank and we're kinda wondering about it

Me: A tank?

Dispatch: Yeah a tank. A US WWII tank.

Me: Do we have anti tank weapons because I don't think a normal gun is gonna work

Dispatch: Come again?

Me: Well you know if it actually was a problem it's not like I could do anything. Might as well leave it alone until I get something that could actually damage it

I've always had this fantasy as a kid: The feds come to silence me after I find out some big secret like aliens or something, and they surround my house. I come bursting out in a tank and be like "take that suckers."

"preserving history" is nice and all but deep down you know that if you had the money to buy or restore a tank you would.

I'd like to see what the cowardly rioters would do if they saw this driving down the road towards them and started hearing that gun "firing"

We used to build those model tanks in the late 60's-early 70's with the battery engine so it would actually roll
AND..as little boys with explosives (firecrackers, bottle rockets and gunpowder from shotgun always had a blast blowing them up!)

I'm a high school student in Marine Corps JROTC. When I save up, see their faces when I pull up in the parking lot.
