Modern diesel engines are not reliable like they once used to be. The reason is Emissions like Diesel particulate filters causing check engine lights, engine derates, regens and headache.

Yet millions of ships are out there burning sulphurous dirt as diesel with no emissions restrictions at all. It would take me several lifetimes in an old diesel to match the pollution one of them makes just changing direction.

Mine fell off after hitting a pot hole.

Emissions regulations need to be rebuilt from the ground up. These systems do not work.

Government regulations are the problem

What most people dont know is that car companies can make something better and more reliable but DPF systems are mandated by the government even though they know its a problem 🤔 if you buy a military diesel truck from an auction it comes deleted from factory and is legal to that way.

One stupid thing I’ve taken off but can’t really on the farm tractors. Many farmers have had fire from the regen getting so hot…especially when the machine is dusty

It’s all garbage, I used to build and test sprayers and floater trucks for case ih and we’d have trouble with brand new stuff. Bad sensors, throwing codes for no reason and derating the engine. It was a nightmare just to get them working right and loaded on a truck and then it was constant calls from dealers and customers having issues too. The foreign models with no emissions equipment…….flawless.

GM just bought back my 2024 Silverado 1500 ZR2 with the 3.0 Duramax. That engine gave me nothing but problems. It never stranded me, but all of my issues happened in the after treatment system. Tons of sensor issues. My dash lit up like a Christmas tree on multiple occasions. At one time, it threw 9 codes and the dealer had no idea how to fix it. They replaced multiple sensors and even the ECM. It also had issues towing and major defects with DEF consumption. I loved the power and fuel economy of this engine, but ultimately had to turn it in. Luckily GM made the process smooth

DELETE THAT CRAP, tune it, and you're good to go 👍

My new Isuzu 3.0 Dmax has no dpf and the EGR has been disabled.
Runs very clean and will give me 10 years of reliable service like the three previous ones before it.

And now gas engines will have gas particulate filters as well. Which is a great thing. The drivers who pollute the most will now have to pay the most to maintain their vehicles.

Now gasoline cars are starting to come with particulate filters.

Haven't had any DPF issues yet. SCR is much more fickle and less reliable

$1800 and 6 hours of my time, i no longer have these issues.

What's the point of having a particulate filter when you just end up burning off the contents of it later. Sounds like tailpipe emissions bs that has no bearing in actual real world application. Same amount of emissions are being released either way.

Ahh que the whining from the people who only have ever owned any of the big 3 diesels in small trucks yes your 2500 or F350 is small. When you have long haul guys having fewer issues or any of the euro brands (looking at vw or Audi) Benz diesels solid BMW diesels solid why is that only the trucks that people buy and then don’t use them as intended are the ones whining?

More of a gm type of guy but for my next pick up I’m not sure if I want a 3rd or 4th gen Cummins, or a lmm duramax. If a Cummins manual preferred.
