Why is Vietnam SO LONG?

Vietnam stands at 1,025 mi (1,650 km), but only 75 mi (125 km) wide on average. So how and why did Vietnam end up so long and narrow?

Additional information: In the late 17th - early 18th century, after the Ming Dynasty fell and replaced by the Qing Dynasty, there were many Ming loyalists who set sail to many regions in Southeast Asia. Some established their colonies in the Mekong Delta and later joined the Nguyễn Clan. Those lands were later integrated into the Vietnamese territory.

1:13 Vietnam actually won this war ( the main reason that they won this war is because superior fire power because after Vietnam regain it independent from the Ming. They have a ton of guns and canon ( this even give Ming great concern but there nothing their can do about it ) ( They have so much that literally everyone have at least one so the emperor have to take a ton of it away 😅😂 ). They annexed Bồ Man ( Muang Phuan ) made Lan Xang a tributary and after this war Lan Xang start a long decline and break into many small state. ( this written in both Vietnamese (Đại Việt ) and Chinese (Ming) History book. But after Nguyễn Ánh ( Gia Long ) became the Emperor of Đại Việt he this land back to the Lao but after his son Minh Mạng inherited the thorn he take this land back. And then when the France take controled of what is now Lao Viet Cam they decided to give this land (including the Bồ Man and all of central Lao ( The Vientiane Kingdom region ) back to Lao to connect the upper Lao and the lower Lao and also to weaken Đại Nam evenmore ( Đại Việt Nam ).
