As a mathematician, seeing this trick really fascinated me. It doesn't look to complicated, but you're using the position of the cards. When the cards are flipped up in a certain position, it'll end up correctly. Then, by dealing the cards 2 at a time, you don't only switch the orientation, but also the position, keeping the correct layout of the cards. Then by having the rows eliminated, all you're doing is making sure the position of the card flips the exact way it needs to. It's a very complex principle, but such an elegant trick. Well done in finding this to whomever did it

Writing notes for my reference

People choose four cards
Grab another 12 random cards
People put their cards in face up
Get someone to shuffle but make sure four cards are still facing up
Deal and flip cards individually. First card has to be placed down. Next card you flip. And so on
Spread cards to show audience the mix
Deal in pairs. They choose “deal” or “flip”.
Spread mix again to show audience.
Create grid. Deal top left to right four cards. Then right to left for the next row. Then left to right. Then right to left like a snake.
Audience choose to flip rows or columns.
The final flip will determine how the aces are facing.

If anyone's interested in this principle, Bob Hummer is credited for discovering and exploring this principle and has a few fascinating books on it. The folding portion is credited to Karl Fulves, John Bannon also has explored it with some great results.

I thought of a really cool twist on this concept. Wasn't sure if it would work but it did. The idea is an oil and water routine. So i did it with 24 cards. 16 red and 8 black. Spread the 16 red face down then give the spectators the black cards. Just like in this version they put the black cards face up anywhere within the face down red cards. Do everything else exactly the same and at the end I did a 6 x 4 card matrix instead of a 4 x 4. Again, they choose which section to "fold" until the deck is complete. At the end all red cards are face up or down and all black cards are the opposite. You can say "see, oil and water dont mix"
Not sure if this works with different numbers but I'm going to try it.

This trick is sooo cool ... wow !!! Obviously with this procedure all sixteen cards are flipped or they are brought to the original orientation based on the final choice...meaning the step prior to that completes the orientation... the fact you ask everyone randomly whether or not to flip the cards on random bases, that makes it difficult to trace what is really going on...love this trick... definitely going to try learn this...

Just did that trick 5 times and it's awesome thanks for sharing. I started card magic with diodgy L+S and R+S decks but am learning the best magic tricks are the ones like this where there are no gaff cards, no dishonesty and you end up completely clean. Thanks again.

I love this! The first time I tried, it didn't work but then I watched you again carefully and it was the grid I'd got wrong! Important to lay 1st row left to right, 2nd row right to left, 3rd row left to right and 4th right to left - just in case anyone else made the same mistake as me! Thank you for this one!

Brillaint trick I love it! Only caveat is that at the last move, if a face down ace is on the top of the last pile you flip, there's no eay to know which way to spread them for the reveal. In a way it adds an extra bit to the trick as the audience tjinks youve messed up but then you can collect the cards and flip them, spread them again and prove then wrong!

If you're interested in really understanding, what each phase does, just do the whole trick with 16 cards face down.
Phase1: Shuffling isn't changing, where the cards face
Phase2: This alternates the cards (face up and face down)
Phase3: This doesn't actually do a thing. It just makes the card switch place (with correct facing). Nice to see with 16 cards face down at the beginning
Phase4: Alternates the cards back to the original orientation. Understandable when you start as described.

Nice trick though and very deceptive, if you have 4 card in the stack facing the "wrong" direction.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Jeremy. Great trick!!
On the last step, people wanted to have me flip from the middle of the grid and it didn't work. All flips need to come from outer edges. Thanks again.

Unbelievable. Very interesting. Thank you so much. This is the best and easy card trick which I have ever seen, which could be performed in between any number of people and any number of times. ❤❤❤❤. I am from INDIA, (BHARAT). I'll definitely try this.

Unbelievable...I tried this several times with the 4 cards (I chose 4 aces) in various spots...even in a row without any cards separating them and it still worked. I thought if I put the 4 aces one after the other, it would finish in the same sequence..but it didn't...craziest trick I've seen.
