We have Intel i9 at home | Xeon E5-2667 v4

Testing the Intel Xeon E5-2667 v4 eight core CPU in 9 popular and demanding games in 2023, using an RTX 3070 discrete GPU.

Intel’s first 14nm 8 Core actually launched 2 years before the i9-9900K; the Xeon E5-2667 v4 was intended for server and workstation applications, and as such isn’t really intended to be competitive with modern gaming CPUs. However, the used server CPU market is thriving and there are more and more options for socket 2011-3 motherboards in 2023, so gamers on a budget could be forgiven for being interested in the 2667 v4 as a cheap option. Is there enough pedigree here to make this not only good value, but good in general?

ERRATA:
So, I forgot about the i9-7000 series which came out the year before the 9900K. I'd blame Techpowerup, who don't list it on a search for "i9", but it's my own fault for not double checking on Ark!

Just a note: The i9 9900K was the first i9 CPU released to mainstream desktop. The first i9 CPU released to desktop was the i9 7900X released in 2017 on the X299 platform.

Another great video! It’s nice to see how these older systems hold up even today and beyond.
I just built a hp z440 with a E5-2697A and paired it with a gtx 1080. It’s a neat system for the price. Keep up the great work good sir 💪

This channel is so damn good, it's so fun taking a walk down memory lane and how some of these CPUs hold up. It is such a great resource for bang for buck builds

I have a system with 2*E5 2696v3, 256gb ram and RTX A4000 (custom cooling). Using it mostly for massive calculations (I'm a scientist). System seriously lacks behind in single core calculations. But if I tried to build smth comparable in parallel calculations from new parts, it will be at least 2-3 times more expensive.
And my friend needed cheap upgrade for the system. 130-140$ for motherboard, 32gb ram and e5 2680v4 is pretty good, I think)
This old CPUs still have their use)

Finally, a Broadwell Xeon review. Those Broadwell Xeons at 14nm are now dirt cheap, especially the Xeon e5-2680v4, which I am planning to do a build with (maybe even a twin socket monstrocity with all RAM slots populated) so as to have a comically large core count for running demanding professional tasks). Most importantly, they are fully compatible with existing LGA2011-3 motherboards and upgrading from something like a Xeon e5-2620v3 or 2650v3 to a Xeon e5-2680v4 seems like a no-brainer, which would also make the power consumption less ridiculous.

Ha noticed my friends channel at 1:55 in your YouTube search! He’s got lots on xeons and x99 stuff! Loving your content so far cheers from Down Under mate 🍻

Was hoping to see a vid about this generation of Xeons from you mate, top notch as always 😊

I nabbed a 22-Core E5-2699v4 some time ago for the lucky price of £150, paired it with 64GB of RAM on an Asus Rampage Extreme 10 & had it as a solid secondary PC for things like rendering and restoring data, tho admittedly I intially bought it all because I thought it was cool and justified it with the practical stuff 😂

These xeons are always great when found for cheap prices

The e5-1660v3 and e5-1680v3 has unlocked multipliers. I have the later and it runs really well.
Would love to see a e5-2696v4 on your chart. It has a decent turbo multiplier and a l3 cache of 55mb
Good video, thank you!

Amazing review as always! I have one myself and it's superb ^^

Would be very interesting to see how well these xeons can be undervolted.

Old Net/Sys Admin here. Getting ready to retire my used Xeon system I built back in early 2016. It runs 24/7 as my server and desktop. My specs are similar to yours. Except I used an AsRock X99 MB and a Xeon E5-2658v3 (almost dead even with the 2667 in multi-threaded performance). I picked up the 2658 for $180 at that time. It's been a great system. But now... I'm going Ryzen with triple the performance and a lower TDP.

I've been running one of these for about the last 14 months and I am very happy with it. I was able to build a system with this (E5-2667v4) and 64GB of DDR4-2400 in quad channel in a Dell Precision Tower case for about $200, plus one of those Chinese mobility RTX 3060m miner cards for another $175 and a PCIe-NVMe adapter board and 1TB SSD for another $75 for an all-in cost of right around $450. Considering the performance I get from that system and the absurd amount of RAM, I think you'd be hard-pressed to make an affordable system that can game perfectly at 1200p (my preferred resolution) that can beat it. I even run a dedicated server on half the cores and memory when I play one of my games with my friends and have no issues.

In BFV I fixed the "low polygon count" by downloading "nvidia profile inspector" and changing the allowed "cache size" to unlimited.

Once I did that all vehicles and character models started rendering in high quality and no longer looked like models from the early 2000s

I've recently found your channel and am loving this content. My first PC was around this era and it's a really cool way to look back and see everything else that existed alongside the mainstream desktop platforms. I look forward to seeing more from your channel.

I went for a Xeon 1231v3 over a i7 4790 years ago. Was fantastic. Performance was very close to benchmarks I compared too. However any troubleshooting any game I would get to hear "thats a server cpu, its not made for gaming".

Wow I can't believe how good the X79 1680 V2 is performing in some of these games. I used one for about a year, did amazing, but I just managed to get a cheap upgrade at the time. Very impressive for a 2013 processor
