i feel like this experiment also needs to be conducted with teens aged 14-16, because a lot of parents dont know how to treat their teenagers. this is quite possibly the first taste of freedom these 11-12 years old have gotten, so i’d like to see how this turns out with kids that have been on their own before

I believe this is mainly because they were probably told that there are no rules. A better experiment would have been to have a set of rules posted somewhere, and see how well they followed them with no supervision. If you throw a bunch of kids in a house and say "go wild, " of course they gonna act up. Parents don't make a difference, parenting does. I'm sure some of these kids act the same at home. Some probably don't and was just letting off some steam.

The saddest part is that with the girls one of them was so stressed out caring for everyone, cleaning, cooking, and trying to navigate the chaos that she had to leave. Its honestly really heartbreaking to see a kid cry because they got broken by stress
