I work full time at a Kroger store and the company could really give a shit less about sustainability and waste, they just promote that whole thing because they think it's what everyone wants to hear nowadays. It's really sad how much product goes to waste behind closed doors.

You forgot to mention that they treat their employees like crap and do the opposite of "feed the human spirit"

I have worked at Kroger since 1994. A horrible place to work. I could write a book on the subject.

I’ve worked for Kroger for 6 years and have been a in management role for 4 of those years and I must say the company when I first started did care about its employees but now it’s all about the cash we are looked at as robots that can easily be replaced

I worked at Kroger some years ago. I saw quickly that management was not rewarded for independent thinking. Generally, Kroger prefers supervisors to just wait and see what happens before they take action.

I was an employee of Kroger distribution in ky for 17 years.... I left the company ( terminated) in 2019... After I was denied a vacation I was entitled to from yrs of service. Vacation was denied due to clerical error in HR department. My mother lost her life in a house fire the same week I requested and was ultimately denied.... I could no longer face my superiors after that.... I may have prevented her death.... I may not have.... But after 17 yrs of service in the distribution center.... I as well as everyone else working there are expendable/worthless in the eyes of that company....

I used to work at Kroger for several years, it started off as a good company to work for but the last couple years started to go downhill for me, I feel towards the end of my run at Kroger we started having more employees breezing through their shifts with little effort and less of the employees who were working their asses off, there were times whenever I opened I would have to pick up the slack from the closing employees who did very little, I had complained to management about this but not a whole lot was getting done about it, I was getting burnt out by having to work the opening shifts to where they eventually started giving me more later shifts (which I preferred getting), once I started getting more later shifts I was feeling more relaxed and energized.

My favorite one-stop shop is a sister store of Kroger, called Fred Meyer. I absolutely LOVE shopping there. They have a pharmacy, apparel purses, shoes, electronics, jewelers, and absolutely delicious food. Some, including mine, even have a gas station with ridiculously cheap gas.

A Kroger Manager called the police on me in 2020. For sneezing on shopping carts. Outside. It was an involuntary accident because my paper mask put little wisps of paper fibers in my nostrils and as I moved my recently purchased cat food from shopping bag to backpack, I sneezed on the cart that I was using like a table. Again, this was outside. Minimum 20 feet from the entrance but it might’ve been 25-30. I was neither being obnoxious nor interacting with anyone. In fact I was listening to a book and on Audible and minding my own business when a clerk reprimanded me for sneezing. “Sir. You need to do THAT somewhere else.” A sneeze. I calmly replied “I’m packing my purchase and minding my own business and I think you should go on about your business too.” He huffed off mumbling about sanitation like I’d cursed him, been personal or belligerent. If anything I was incredulous and sick of the mask hysteria but had not said anything to anyone. I paid for my purchase through self check so I felt very much like this clerk was behaving in a classic “corporal with his stripes” manner. “How are you doing this evening?” I turned to see a morbidly obese woman glaring at me. Wearing a name tag. “I’m fine. Yourself?” I answered, having completed packing 25 cans of Fancy Feast into my backpack. Again, all of this happened OUTSIDE. “Well my clerk said you were very rude and had a problem with his safety instructions?” She retorted. “I was not rude. I was direct. And suggested he go about his business.” “That’s not what he said” She wouldn’t let it go. At that point I’d slung my pack and began to walk away. Then that funny internal warning bell went off inside me. Why does this lady care? This is beyond much ado about nothing. “If you have some kind of problem with any employee here you need to—“ I’d had more than enough. Especially her “Ma’am you need to mind your own business too.” I said with a smile. “THIS IS MY BUSINESS!” She said, her entire body vibrating and her jowls told me she was near her snap-point. I broke off and walked across the 2x football field size parking lot; having walked to the store from my home (less than a mile away). But that weird little bell kept sounding. So I obtained an observation location, behind some shrubs and across the street. Sure enough. A police car eased to the curb. A few feet from where we stood. The clerk came back outside. Gesticulating like he’d just seen aliens. I watched a confused cop patiently listen to a kooky clerk and his uber-kooky manager as they flailed around and told the good constable all about the “cat food packing man and his sneeze on shopping carts, at this approximate location and approximately 9 minutes ago” True story. Kroger. Cops. Fancy Feast. All over a single involuntary sneeze. Conclusion? It was not only a bad idea to cut off the flow of fresh oxygen to those working in customer service all day; it was pointless per OSHA safety standards dating back to the 1970’s. PS: my cat was very pleased with the outcome.

Kroger is known for selling expired or nearly expired food to boost their margins. Don’t ever shop there if you have an alternative.

Believe it or not, my mother always told me my first word was Kroger. Not “mama”, or “dada”...Kroger. I was a strange kid. I turned into an even stranger adult. 😆
