Meet the BYD Seal!

Though BYD may not have the lengthy history of some automotive giants, its journey is nothing short of miraculous. Founded in 1995, BYD pivoted to the automotive sector in 2003, initially producing affordable petrol cars. Recognising the potential of the EV market, BYD shifted focus and became pioneers in battery technology. Their innovative Blade Battery, which offers enhanced safety, longevity, and faster charging, has been central to their success.

Despite entering a crowded market with heavyweights like Tesla, BMW, and Hyundai, the BYD Seal stands out with its stylish design, impressive range, and feature-packed interior. Today, we'll explore whether it has what it takes to be a market leader.

Exterior Design

Front: The Seal’s bold, closed-off front grille, sleek LED headlights, and sharp C-shaped daytime running lights create an imposing and modern look.
Side: Its flowing silhouette, smooth lines, hidden door handles, and a range of alloy wheels (18 to 20 inches) exude futuristic elegance.
Rear: The stylish fastback design and C-shaped taillights add drama and breadth, while a wide boot opening offers practical storage.
Interior Comfort and Technology

Spaciousness: Thanks to the Blade Battery, the Seal’s floor is lower, enhancing legroom. The sloping roofline might affect headroom slightly, but adjustable seats ensure comfort.
Materials: BYD spares no expense with soft-touch materials, leather, and suede throughout the cabin.
Infotainment: The 15.6-inch rotatable display is a standout, controlling climate, navigation, and entertainment. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Practicality: Ample storage options, from spacious door bins to a capacious glove box, ensure convenience.
Driving Experience

Join us as Paul takes the Seal for a spin:

Performance: The Seal’s 82.5 kWh Blade Battery delivers up to 354 miles of range. With 308 hp in the rear-wheel-drive version, it accelerates from 0-62 mph in about 5 seconds. The all-wheel-drive variant boasts 536 hp, achieving 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
Comfort: Silent, smooth, and luxurious, the Seal offers an exceptional driving experience. The heated, leather seats and advanced insulation make for a comfortable ride.
Visibility: While the large rearview mirrors provide excellent rear visibility, the sloping rear window could be a minor drawback.
Advanced Features

Voice Control: Activate and control features with voice commands for added convenience.
Parking Assistance: An advanced camera system offers a 360-degree view, simplifying parking and maneuvering.
Charging: Supports rapid charging (20-80% in about 40 minutes) and standard home charging (around 11 hours for a full charge).
Pricing and Trim Levels

The BYD Seal is competitively priced:

Design Trim: Starts at just over £43,000, offering a comprehensive package of features.
Excellence Trim: Priced at just over £48,000, this trim adds all-wheel drive and more power.
Should You Buy the BYD Seal?

If you're seeking a stylish, modern EV with a spacious interior and competitive range, the BYD Seal is an excellent choice. Despite its relatively high price and limited boot space, it offers unmatched style, practicality, and features in its class.

Subscribed. I am a fan of Zeeker and BYD(for its blade battery and DM-i technology). BYD’s DM-i technology is truly amazing, it makes Toyota’s hybrid be like a technolog from the Paleolithic Period. I guess that's why Toyota is gonna adapt BYD’s DM-i technology. Also like competition, that's why Tesla has dropped over $30k in last few years because of Chinese competition. A BYD Seal cost US$30 in Australia but it sells for US$52 in Europe, I think we are lucky in Australia. We can use the saved $22k to make holidays, buy groceries, pay bills, etc. Thanks for competition.

BYD is one of the leading brand in China for its battery, driving train technology and styling, however, it has a lot to catch up when compares with other Chinese cars that are equipped with Huawei autonomous driving system like the Aito 7 and the Avatr12.

It’s a close run thing though!! The two cars look nearly identical, but why bother bringing out such a vehicle when people like me want - and dream of - electric campers.

They call this way of providing a rear window a “letterbox style “ rear window.

Nice, but inaccurate (19" alloys only) and late review of this car, considering it came to the UK late last year

I owned the BYD Seal for nearly 5 months and I CAN'T recommend this car!

There are so many annoying things in the daily driving. Not to mention my car was at the workshop 3 times with a total of 7 weeks doing the periode of time I had the car.

Sure, it does look good and it drives somewhat okay as well .. But do yourself a favour and avoid this car.

I even uploaded some clips to my youtube, just to showcase some of things - BYD claims they are fake 🙄🤦‍♂

So many mistakes do your homework if you're reviewing a product

Would I buy a Tesla or a BYD Seal? I’m more likely to go for a Tesla rather than a much cheaper car from Build Your Dreams!!

I don't enjoy you advocating or in fact giving any advertising to a nation's industries when that nation has clear and stated intention to dominate the World and economic dumping of electric vehicles is an active part of that plan. This is not to mention the asymmetry of sales restrictions. Get a spine and some ethics OSV- Chinese cars have no place in a free market and you should not be advertising them.
