What's irritating is that they had the opportunity to make the perfect new Rays and Makos by including the new hacking/hand-winding movement, sapphire, and solid end-links on both models. For some strange reason they decided not to do so. Cost cutting measures? Has to be, but they missed the boat in some ways.

Good upgrades all-round. I do wish they had removed that extra pusher crown, though (getting rid of the day window if need be).

I had the original Mako and the XL. No question this is an upgrade.

Those are Spanish days not French days, an understandable mistake because they're cognates, but still incorrect.

I was about to buy this but I couldn't help getting discouraged by tat scratch-prone bezel.  Surely a big company as Orient could afford to invest in higher quality bezels on these. I know my Seiko srp309 has a solid stainless steel bezel on which any scratches can easily be buffed out. The bezel on these Mako and Mako USA are just finished with black paint which is prone to scratching.

I really like the look of the blue dial BUT I just can't get over that push button.

I bought a new 2016 mako 2, it has winding and hacking capability, and only a single crown at 3 o' clock. My former mako xl Lume sucked!! It was dull and lasted for 3 minutes if you were lucky. The 2016 has much more improvements. $180.00 on eBay.
