This is cool. I’ve noted for a while that amp plugins tend to have a high pass effect. Until I heard him say it, I never put two and two together to realize that this is the perfect thing to do if you want the kick carrying the low end. If you want the bass beneath the kick then maybe lean more on a DI. Thanks

A great example of that opposite he is talking about is the song “Amazonia” by Gojira. The bass carries all the low end when it enters and the kick is automated to becomes chesty and just a percussion

I'm exactly the same. I usually roll of the bass until it sits with the kick.
