In the Middle East it's the white spot that determines if it's a good watermelon or not.

And the end that was connected to the vine must be dark brown
And that knocking must sound hollow sorta
You get the idea

1) Dark yellow bottom
2) See if vine has fallen off or cut off. Cut off...leave there!
3) Look at opposite end of the watermelon. Not where the vine falls off....if that area is oozing a brown substance...get it!

These are tips for sweetness, as I am a Southener, because I've never had a non-juicy watermelon.

Gently, with slight pressure, drag your finger nails over the watermelon. Look under your nails…if you have green rind under your nails, the watermelon is ready to eat.
It’s the same way to check cucumbers.

Actually put the melon on your ear and knock on it if its ripe you will hear the water in it. When you hear a more firm texture it isn't ripe. Test am lor of melons and you will hear and recognise the difference. The only drawback is overripe melons also sound of moving water in it. But these are way rarer than not ripe water melons.

Yes. 1- is correct because of weight and 3- is also very right because watermelon sits on the ground and one side gets more sun and the side should be green. The greener the better. 🎉

Tip 3. Don’t leave in your garage fridge too long or it will be mush.

a lot of watermelons have been kept real cold right down to freezing and when they free they turn a deep red inside and they are mushy instead of crispy when you bite them. you'll notice this in the cut up watermelon in the produce department. darkest rarest ones are soft the pink ones aren't even ripe yet. and you're not at their maximum sweetness. I got a real heavy one with the d u l l thud and it was real red inside but it was all mushy and spoiled. it looks beautiful from the outside. but not on the inside.

You forgot one! Look at the belly button of the watermelon, if it’s green it’s not ripe! If it’s completely brown, it is ripe!

and the bad one I found was just a little bit soft on the outside. when it got cold though it was hard on the outside and felt like it was good. mushy and spoiled inside. if they're soft at all don't buy them

The best way to find out if it's ripe is to cut that sucker open!!!
