It's kind of bittersweet how the roles reversed between her dad and husband. Her husband started out supporting her while her dad didn't, until her husband began feeling neglected, he started feeling inferior to her which he selfishly let kill his pride as a man when he could've continued supporting her instead her father was the one who began supporting and admiring her hard work.

How his father went to seeing these kids as "kids who don't give a damn about their education"
Until the dinner scene, he saw how they weren't rude, they talked to each other as if everything in the world stopped for just that moment.
He started seeing what his daughter was seeing....

There's a great deleted scene at the hotel's restaurant where Erin's dad notices a waiter discriminate a colored student. The waiter judges her by her appearance/class and tells her "you won't like that dish" when she tries to order, then tries to convince the whole class to order pizzas instead. Erin's dad stood up for the student, told Erin he'd pay for the whole dinner, and encouraged the student to order whatever she wanted. I wish it was still up on Youtube.

I know. I started my teacher career by chance. I absolutely fell in love with it, regardless of the hardships, difficult students, neglecting parents and administrative personnel. I give too much because I can see that children and youngsters need that much. I still have many collegues tell me I get overly involved and that I'm to naive and idealistic. I disagree, but maybe I am too romantic, but I strongly believe that our children can change the world.

"You have been blessed with a burden." Dang! That line hit me really hard. As a former teacher, my students would usually confide with me. I know their stories and their worries. It is always so hard not to get attached to them, especially when you know why they act the way they do. My professor in college once told me that "the price of being great is responsibility." Being a teacher is an enormous responsibility. I know that if I had continued my teaching profession, I would have dedicated my life to my job — to the point that I would not have enough quality time for my own family. After a decade of teaching, I quit. Teaching was more than a job for me. It was my passion. But as they say, your passion will hurt you. Teaching gave me all the joys that no other job could. However, it also gave me heartache and disappointment. It took more than my time. It was slowly taking my life away. It was probably a selfish thing to do, but I am glad I quit.

I remember when i was in highschool i had two teachers who cared about my education. One was a math teacher and the other was a English teacher. My math teacher literally followed my freshman class through the year's. He had became my teacher sophomore year and senior year as well.! I remember when i went to him and said i wanted to graduate in three years instead of four. He was like you can do it! I'm going to make sure of it. And i did! I had support from my mom and help, but i don't think people realize how important a teacher job is. And to get that support and encouragement from that teacher as well! Thank you Mr. Curry ☺☺☺☺ best teacher i ever had!

It's sucks to hear when teachers in the ghetto wanna quit there job cause the majority don't care about education): including me sadly but it is what it is.

You have been blessed with a burden my daugther, and I envy that and I admire you. How many fathers ever get to say that to their daugthers?

I love that, she is lucky to have such an amazing father.

I was binge watching Grey's clips, and then saw the freedom writers and was like "let's watch this" and for the first few seconds I was like "I could have sworn I clicked the Freedom Writers clip." Totally forgot he was in this movie. xD

It is interesting to see how people react to each other's dreams and accomplishments we had her father who was dead set against her teaching these kids but as he saw her change them for the better he started to support her about it and then a husband was started out supporting her but eventually hated what she was doing because he wasn't there with him and he thought what she was doing was meaningless. Wow.

"He just thinks I'm just not good enough for you. Which is fine. It's what fathers do and I'm trying to be that man someday." Agree man, Agree.

Her dad was also a teacher. He taught at Charter Oak high school in Covina he taught math part time 0, 1st and 2nd period and also was scout for the Anaheim Angels. He used to tell us he taught 3 hours a day to help pay his alamony payment.
