If you want to make Lao sticky rice at home, I wrote an in depth free ebook Lao Sticky Rice Guide available on my website newsletter and it includes 5 different ways of cooking sticky rice and links to the supplies. Hope that helps. www.saengskitchen.com

I buy the 3 ladies brand. I can taste the difference when I eat a new crop in Thailand. My family grows sticky rice 🌾

For Japanese rice the first crop of the season is labeled Shinmai. Japanese labeling laws require hulling and/or milling dates to be clearly printed on the rice bag. Some like my SIL prefer to buy Japanese brands that are not milled until they are imported into the US; this helps to ensure the freshest possible rice. If she can’t get her preferred brand, she will mill her own with her home rice mill machine. Me, I am just happy to get imported Japanese since it is so hard to find in my state. My local H Mart has sacks of rice stacked everywhere, but the “Japanese” rice they offer is actually domestic rice grown in California.

As a Chinese, I’ll have to explain that not all sticky rice are the same… Probably in regions all across Laos people have the same type of sticky rice but you can actually find different types in these grocery stores: basically the rounder the grains are, the sweeter they taste

I love Thai Jasmine rice, it’s great for a lot of things and much cheaper than basmati (though I prefer Basmati for biriyani and pilau type dishes).

Interesting that you go for new rice. Here in India we prefer aged (2 yrs +) rice.

I just discovered your channel and I find it so interesting! I know nothing about the food and culture, but I used to work with a really cool Lao woman, and now I appreciate knowing her even more.

I love three ladies! It’s the stuff my dad always use to get when I was young and it’s always done well in our steamer baskets :)

Love your channel!!! Question: How do you clean the steamer baskets? Or generally the woven kitchen items?
