He came to Metallica in their darkest moment, to fill the spot not only of an incredible bass player but a person in Cliff Burton, and had to endure bullying and mistreatment from the rest of the band as a result of no mourning. He took it all like a champ and still did it with professionalism, enthusiasm, and heart. Much respect Mr. Newsted.

I don’t blame him. He gave it his all and he has my respect for that

It's awesome that he can admit this most rockstars would rather try to hide it and give piss poor shows.

He was The Main Man at any live Metallica show from 1988 till Jan of 2001. He literally gave it his all. He was a massive force in Metallica for that exact reason. He has nothing but respect from us fans and Metallica and all the bands he played with . Go rest o thee god of Metal. You have earned it.

He was with them for their absolute Pinnacle. Every where he goes he is well respected. Every time you see his name you actually want it to be good News. People will always care about him. He's good stuff.

Headbanging for as many years as Newsted has really does a number on your neck and spinal cord.

I can relate. 30 years ago I was a bassist in a band that supported Testament, Slayer, etc and due to nerve damage and arthritis I cannot play the thrash and speed metal basslines anymore. hurts too damn much.

Thats why Bob Dylan was a genuis, if you start out singing and playing like a worn out haggard 80 year old man, you can do that forever, hahaha....love Bob and Jason

Total respect to Jason here, he gave his all when he was in Metallica and he did as close to perfect as he could, especially with replacing Cliff. I will always love his time in Metallica and ill always love watching the live Metallica videos on here with him in. Keep rocking Jason, even if it's in your Chophouse band 👌

Jason was great with them but I am happy he is doing what he wants now and doesn't have to follow instructions. He is the boss now 🤘👊🤘

It's a shame he couldn't keep Newsted going. I was fortunate enough to see them on Gigantour 2013. I thought they were really good.

Most of these comments share the same sentiment. Respect and love with how Jason played over the years. He truly was the direct connection to the fanbase. That's really hard to do for a non original member. And... ..replacing a legend who was cut down in his prime.
Truly amazing accomplishment!!

He's taken every bit of talent and work ethic he has ever had and poured it into the Chophouse stuff. It still rocks, and that's just what that musical style he currently plays needs! Newsted Backbone!

Love that guy and yes everyone knows how amazing Cliff was but for me Newsted is probably the most important person in their lives and history saved them from a much darker path

I'm glad dude is happy doing what he wants. Isn't that what we all strive towards? As is said, do what you love and it won't feel like a job. 😎🤘

Jason was in Metallica when they were at their absolute zenith; particularly early on during the Damaged Justice tour. That era was total precision and perfection.

He was the ultimate live guy and I'll never forget his contribution.
