The SS Ourang Medan was a reported ghost ship and proposed urban legend of the 1940s. The vessel was supposedly discovered adrift after briefly broadcasting an SOS. The ships that responded to the SOS were reported to have discovered all the crew dead with their eyes open and their faces frozen in shock, as if they were witnessing such a horrific scene. As they subsequently prepared to tow the Ourang Medan to port, a fire reportedly broke out in the hold resulting in its eventual sinking, hiding it and its mysteries forever.

The most prominent version of the story places the vessel in the Dutch East Indies (modern Indonesia) in the Straits of Malacca waters, while other versions of the tale place the vessel around the Marshall Islands or Solomon Islands.[1][2][3] The story was initially reported in Italy in 1940 and the UK in 1940, before similar stories were repeated in 1948 and later again in 1952.[4][2] The inability of researchers to identify the vessel in any official records, along with the inconsistent reporting of the location, and other details that change from version to version, has led to speculative coverage in mystery publications such as the Fortean Times.

The picture wasn't one of the soldiers, it was a woman who was found frozen but still alive, she was thawed and made a full recovery.

It might be because of the temperature there, the freezing temperature made the engine freeze and made the Dutch ship SS system fail, and no one is alive to stabilize it or fix it.

Or it was because of the engine getting colder and colder.

Because the "Dutch ship SS" doesn't use winterized engine, when the air temperature reached 28°F a unwinterized ship engine will freeze and stop working, this might lead to the ship material becoming frigid and easy to crack/break, imagine you put a flower in a dry ice it will be frigid and easy to break it into pieces, that's how cold it is.

I am trying to learn English, yes i am not from United Kingdom or United States Of America, i am Asian so be quiet and don't spam *"Grammar"*

Also sometimes they use water pump to suck the salty water because salty water is warmer than fresh sea water, and maybe the pipe malfunction and suck the fresh cold water above the salty water, and the last guy survives longer because he wore a sweater and stays inside of the ship.

I'm not 100% sure if my theory is true, so dunno.

Edit: I was fixing some mistake on my comment.

Help, it's terrifying, especially for the finders, the crew member who made that statement was a great hero, respect

I’d rather be the first to die than the last, so that I didn’t have to see the others’ deaths. I feel bad for the man who sent the message, and hope that whatever happened to the crew wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been.

I think it's from a Dutch, but they sailed from "Medan" maybe, in fact at my Country there's a city called Medan (I'm from Indonesia)

The S.S. Ourang Medan was a Dutch cargo ship that according to some authors exploded in the waters of the Straits of Malacca (The Strait of Malacca is a narrow stretch of water, 800 kilometres long and from 65 to 250 km wide, between the Malay Peninsula to the northeast and the Indonesian island of Sumatra to the southwest, connecting the Andaman Sea and the South China Sea) after its entire crew died from possibly poison gas or something else. But they're all really had some doubt after the last Transmission they were accepted...

They send a rescue team to the S.S. Ourang Medan but unfortunately they found the crew and a dog died there either from a cold or something else but one thing they know is they're all had some fear on their expression even the dog...

Also a little bit information maybe about S.S. Ourang Medan name,
So in my country (Indonesia) they called "People" with "Orang" and i think Ourang here is what a Dutch would say about the Ship name because they didn't know what "Orang" literally mean...
So S.S. Ourang Medan could readed as S.S. Medan People or something like that...
Ah yes also a little bit more information, our old Indonesian Language are a little bit unique, they had like this sequences to make "O" but write it as "Ou" or "J" write it as "Tj"

SS Ourang Medan. Speculations are that the ship had carried deadly toxins for use in war but somehow the contents within got leaked and the fumes spread everywhere throughout the ship, said toxin when inhaled made soldiers hallucinate other soldiers as monsters and shot and killed their own friends others died out of pure fear of the hallucinations ( even the dog was found stiff dead with a scared expression ) and most of the crew had their eyes wide open and their facial expression so scared as if they saw something sinister. The bodies were twisted in a weird way or curled up stiff. I think that toxin along with the ship afterwards sunk in the sea due to an explosion.
