Porsche has produced an electric version of one of its best-selling cars! Named the Macan Electric, it’s a premium SUV that – in petrol form – has sold by the bucket load since launch in 2014. Can this latest EV version repeat that success? CAR magazine’s James Dennison delivers his verdict.

Porsche did the EV Macan right; they made it a proper driver's EV SUV, still a proper Porsche. But I would still love it if they kept at least one petrol version, maybe V6 GTS. :)

If your just driving about here and there i'd go new Renault 5. It's cheap, looks far cooler and fun inside. Range isn't bad if you get the big battery. I'd then have my 981 for high days and holidays.

I hope they don't lose the electric-only bet. But the "old" Tycan has lost huge value, E-Boxter has test problems and demand for the one-year-to-late-Macan is obviously already weak... I drove the Turbo and it was GREAT, but unfortunately so was the price of 167k€...

Very nice looking car not like every other chinesen small size suv. All of them look the same inside with a single big screen in the middle and also outside.

Rumours say Porsche has a plan b. Apparently it is possible to fit an ICE engine in this skateboard chassis. Dont ask how, it is just a rumour

I believe the ICE versions are discontinued in the EU due to Porsche not feeling they would be able to (or want to spend the money on) meeting new regulations. Those regs will be coming to the UK in the next couple of years ? So a practicality thing rather than a lack of confidence in the platform thing. Meanwhile the Porsche and Piech families have taken huge annual dividends from VW for years, the Northvolt factory has gone bust and VW have just agreed to lay of 35k workers between now and 2030. Enjoy your money Wolfgang.

So this is where we’re headed. Throttle pedal mapping is the point of difference between one vehicle powered by bags of wet chemicals, with another powered by the same bag of wet chemicals.

Oh well, at least we can all remember when, as enthusiasts, our choice of car was based on the type of engine, its sound, its performance characteristics and its heritage. Porsche selling the petrol version alongside this thing is a smart move.
