I am a floater, so I'm not there all week, and I may be in different classrooms in a day. We have a child that I believe is belligerent. She doesn't follow the same instructions as the kids, such as cleaning up their area at lunch. It doesn't matter how many times you ask her to do it, just as fellow classmates did, she walks off. I've seen her understand other things, like it's time to eat or time to play. She is belligerent about keeping her shoes on when in the classroom. Especially with the scare of covid and the flu and colds that get passed around in the preschool, I think it's important to keep their shoes on except at naptime. I'm not the full time teacher though, so I can't enforce that one because instead of the struggle with her, they allow her to run around without shoes and socks, they say it gets more cooperation out of her? What are some suggestions to help her see the accomplishment in taking care of her plate, her cup, etc like the other children? They see she is not made to do it, leaving inconsistency in the room. She doesn't have to do it, why should I ? it s not fair to the others in the classroom, they all must be under the same rules. If you hand her the plate, she won't take it in her hands. more times than not, and when she does, she looks straight at you, opens her hands and lets it fall to the floor. This is a toddler room that is hardest to get any control. I know we can't single her out or any of the children. Are giving them stickers to put on their chart when they have done their jobs a good idea, and let them put them on their chart?
