Template & Routing Overview (Cubase & Vienna Ensemble Pro)

I'd like to offer a glimpse into my 2018 template that I use on a daily basis for my music production. Since I focus on big orchestral scores for film and games, I need a separate host that has all of my virtual instruments pre-loaded from my DAW.

A good orchestral template includes at least one short sample patch, one long sample patch, essential articulations such as trills and tremolos, and an FX patch for each instrument (i.e. French Horn rip or trombone slides).

Then, you want to organize these instruments into a folder for each family of instrument: Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Choir. Color coding or pictures are good ideas for organization. Once, you get the family of instruments down, then route these instruments into groups/stems such as "STRING STEMS."

Great video! And I'm probably purchasing Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 to start a two computer configuration. I have a question. If I need mainly to work on large orchestral midi mockups, which use a large number of VSTs instruments, is it better to invest on a powerful CPU on the master computer (where I run Cubase) or in the slave computer where I load VSTs? (Of course if budget would allow, I know I should upgrade both to max specs...) I've read somewhere that RAM is paramount on the slave, to run many VSTs. But what about CPU ? If I have many instances of Kontakt libraries loaded in the slave, but work with automations and write notes on the master....where has to be the main, most powerful processor? Thanks in advance!
