New Honda Accord hybrid 2024 review: e:HEV RS

Should Honda have bothered bringing the new Accord to Australia?

After nearly 50 years on sale over 11 generations, the Honda Accord is a household name in this market, but there are plenty of reasons why the brand could have decided not to bring this car in.

Sales of vehicles that aren't SUVs or pick-up utes have slumped, and no-one seemingly sees the value of these sorts of sedans.

But the reality is, this new-generation Honda Accord -- which is offered here in e:HEV RS hybrid trim only -- is a lovely thing, and deserves to have its legacy continue on in this market.

It's just a matter of cost, really... as is the case with all modern Honda products in Australia.

Tell me your thoughts on it in the comments below!

I am a Honda Accord fan and owned all the V6L Accord (top of the range) from the 6th until the current 9th gen V6L. Sadly, the 10th, we only got the 1.5T and 2.0Ti (not 2.0T) but I am glad finally we get it in our market as most countries won't get the 11th gen and also we have better trim than the USDM version. Price is a lot more expensive but still cheaper than Indonesia which nearly 100K for the same trim. At the end, it is good to feel that I am hardly seen an Accord on the road especially for the model that I am driving and even almost impossible to meet someone drives with the same colour too. If that happens, I definitely will say "hi".

The Skoda Octavia Sportline makes the most sense to me as an alternative. Yes, it's shorter, but the cargo capacity is 600L vs 570L. With the premium pack, it's also only $45, 690 driveaway.

Side note, Honda should hurry up and roll out the Android Automotive head unit from this Accord to the rest of the line-up. Even if it's optional or just on top spec trims.

Lol that price tag is eye watering. You're dreaming Honda.

This is an excellent vehicle. My issues are the high price, limited service centres in inconvenient locations, a likely lack of tech support for this hybrid system. Also for me a low riding sedan is not what I want anymore.

Its hard not to recommend a second hand car instead. I bought a 2018 mazda 6 gt second hand for 26k. Other than fuel efficiency, that car has a lot of similar features to this for less than half the price. Also its the turbo so its more punchy to drive

Honda will be lucky to sell 10 cars in Australia at that price.

Personally I much rather prefer the design of outgoing model than this new one.

A new fourth-generation hybrid powertrain will motivate the upper portion of the lineup. It's much the same as the hybrid system we first fell for in the 2024 Honda CR-V, with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors.

Hi Matt, great to see subs increasing for your channel! Really enjoying the content and presentation. OK, sorry Honda, would not consider it based on the price. Too many other options, new and near-new. Trying to suss out a market for is one…too expensive for fleet/taxi/Uber? Thoughts?

‏Thanks for the great review, what do you think of the color? What is the best color on a Honda Accord?

Serious question, this or a Sonata N-Line? Currently have a 2021 Sonata, looking to upgrade at end of lease.

In 2019, i bought a brand new base model civic for $26000😢,
But now, like other expensive cars, this accord is going to be a dream for people to buy. The government should act to break down prices. Otherwise, people keep looking for shit Chinese cars.

Always a fan of Honda. But Honda has had some issues with their pricing recently. Look, Honda and other established brands are in trouble of selling their cars in China which is a huge market for car manufactures, and they used to sell tons there. Almost all the non-Chinese brands are offering big discounts these days which made them way cheaper than the ones in Australia. I can't stop thinking that they might have to purposely raise their prices (a lot) in markets like Austrlia to balance out their revenue.

I would choose the base model ES300h (74k) over this Honda RS. The 2 cars serve the same purpose to me which are laid-back road cruizers other than sports sedans. I'm an ES owner myself, and I think the interior finish and the quiteness of the ES is a class above the Accord. If I want to switch to another large sedan, I would personally go for the Sonata for its powertrain and sportiness.

If I have to choose a Honda, currently only the CRV makes a little sense to me even it's still over priced.

I don't see myself buying an accord after retirement. It's huge with low seats and a confusing central controller. This car is marketed in Asia as an executive car driven by a company driver. The boss seats at the back and gets great leg room, a reading lamp while he can pull down the window shade to show his face to security guards without winding down a tinted window. Sold only in 3 colours, black white metal grey, as with corporate formal clothing. So for me, it's the Zrv when I retire, probably the blue one, it's the perfect size, more like a high riding estate

I'll take the Sonata N-line. It has more features, better acceleration, better colour choice and looks amazing.

I owned a V6 Accord during the 1990’s that I loved, was well built, comfortable and drove so well. This new Accord looks well designed but with deficits that shouldn’t exist at the price asked. It seems competent and capable and drives well. I wonder what the pure EV range is? An interesting review as always. Thanks.
