Repairing the Blown Airbags on my Salvage Tacoma Rebuild Project (Over $3000)

I this video I work on replacing the blown airbags in the wrecked 2016 Toyota Tacoma that I bought.

When the airbags are deployed in a crash you need to do a few things to get the system rearmed and functioning properly again. First you need to take out the old airbags and replace them with new ones.

In my case the steering wheel airbags, driver side knee airbags, both side curtain airbags, and both seat airbags deployed. The steering wheel and knee airbag were easy to replace, it was the side curtain and seat airbags that were the hard part.

To get a salvage car back on the road you need to obtain a rebuilt title. To get the rebuilt title you need to pass a safety inspection and this includes not having the airbag light on. After the airbags were replaced you need to reset the airbag module. I decided to send mine out to be re-flashed to Safety Restore. They get the module back to you in one week and make the rebuilding process much easier and cheaper.

Watch as a I get this salvaged vehicle one step closer to being road legal and obtaining a rebuilt title.

Where did you source the side curtain airbags? I've got them bypassed with resistors currently after some research and the srs module is happy (no codes, just saved crash data), but I still need to send off the module/seatbelt for rebuild. I was also curious if any of the impact sensors would need replacing, but it looks like you did not have to replace any of them. I'm working on a 2017, but I'm assuming the main airbag module should be in the same location. Any info on sourcing the curtain airbags, or impact sensor replacement would be awesome! Thanks!

I took the front end of my car off. I changed two blown knee airbags but I haven’t reset the airbag module. If I connect the battery how it is could it make the airbags I replaced go off? Thanks I just want to check out the features on the car
