This is so true, everyone cheers for you all the way, but when you get there they start hating on you.

Real friends don’t only want you to succeed but also don’t have a problem if you are better than them.

it makes me think of what my father had told me. when i was younger, i had started teasing him, telling him how i’m doing this better than how he did, and i remember him saying “good, you’re supposed to be better than me, if you’re not, i’ve failed as your father”

i love you dad, more than you’ll ever know

The best short description of this I’ve ever heard is “people want to see you do good, just not too good”

Facts. That’s when you change your circle and continue to level up!

My uncle used to say the same thing.
“People want you to do well, just not better than themselves.”
Unless the person is comfortable with themselves or they genuinely don’t care then this saying is almost always true.

A brother of mine once told me that "you should watch out for people around you because some people wanna see you win, until you start winning."

People are jealous that's the honest truth

And this is why the people who continue to support you after you make it are the real people.

It's so easy to fall into this. We had a new starter at work, I was rooting for this guy, he had a rough patch in his private life but was really applying himself at work. I did my best to share my knowledge and experience with him. Someone executive noticed his efforts and he got promoted to a manager, I was happy for him but then this odd feeling started gnawing on me. He's been here shorter than me, I trained him on a lot of stuff and he's the one who got promoted 😒 Then I reminded myself that I'm not good that playing corporate politics (nor do I want to be), have no leadership or people skills and don't want to be a manager 😅 I checked myself, realised this guy deserves what he got and I'm being stupid for feeling jealous or resentful of someone else's success when it's not even my dream to be where they are 😂

My mother told me the same thing, people don't like to know you're doing better than them.

This is true, when I started to better than my friends my circle got a lot smaller.

That's a fact!!! They don't mind rooting for you when you're low cuz you're no threat to their feeling of superiority. But when you get on their level or beyond they don't like it cuz they don't feel superior anymore!!!
