Filmmaker James Cameron has visited the Titanic wreck more than 30 times, and this sparked his love for deep ocean exploration. In this 2018 #60Mins interview, he said with most voyages to the ocean floor, the risk is high and rescue is difficult.

For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.

🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s all fun and games until the vessel fails.

Finding it hard to be as sympathetic as everyone else. Yes, it’s sad, moreso for the 19 year old & the families left behind to deal with it all, but as the saying goes ‘more money than sense’. Let her rest. There’s absolutely no more to find out about the titanic now, we’ve found out everything there is to know & then some. It’s time she rests, she & all that sank with her deserve that.
If you’re going to pay absolutely ludicrous money to go on a ticking time b0mb, I’m not quite sure what others expected to happen…?
Thousands get lost at sea every year for working a hard days graft, millions aren’t spent on them to save their lives. The richer you are, the more worthy your life is, apparently. Sad. Sad all round.

If I had that kind of money I still would rather watch the wreck on TV

I think some of these wealthy men sometimes get bored and go looking for new thrills only money can buy on a reserved level.

When you have so much money and get bored you start looking for crazy ways to spend it

If they want tax payers to bail them out when something goes wrong then they should follow the same regulations as everyone else.

They’re looking for some type of fulfillment having learned money doesn’t do it.

Because they got bored of the things you can do on the ground and with such wealth you just have no limits at all

Dudes can spend their coin on playing down below but it’d be great if they could stop pretending they’re doing something noble - that’s the gross bit.

When you have so much money, you get bored. When you bored you look for new ways to push the boat out, amuse yourself. They played a game of boredom, Russian roulette, they lost. There is nothing else to it for why it happened, the adults knew the risk.

The billionaire who used a battery-loaded game controller, a composite hull etc - ignoring safety regulations by trotting out the trite little phrase of “Inspiration is stifled by safety regulations” - makes me think he built up his fortune with this type of thinking - making money by investing in stuff that cut corners, with no regard for the safety of others. In this one case he finally put his own life on the line….& ended up as mincemeat. Beautifully appropriate!

Instead of spending 12 billion dollars to fly a spaceship around the world or dive to the titanic, let's give everyone UBI tied to housing and utilities and universal basic healthcare.

You can't get out of the vessel while down there, so what is the difference of just watching the feed from on land? Actually, the most pompous human activity

It’s always a certain group of men that will trample over sacred things for their own need to satisfy childlike curiosity.

Was Cameron also using a video game controller to get there?

Those billionaires should have had their own submarine built and certified properly. The 19 yr old was terrified his Aunt said. The father was obsessed with the titanic. One loss in the family is too much. Cameron has been down to Titanic 33 times...he said. Wow. So many, it can't have just bn for a film. That would be too trivial
