I was expecting a total masterpiece and was still pleasantly surprised.
I consider those two seasons as prologue, because real Vinland Saga starts from there. Torfinn experience the hell of both war and slavery, so his quest of ending it all feels geniuene.

He left home because he thought that was the only way to be a true warrior. Seeing him realize that being true warrior was coming home was so cathartic. Especially when he comes back to his mom looking mostly like his dad.

She doesn't need to know why Thorfinn also grew that goatee or who inspired him to do so.

Just so you know. Thorfinn left when he was six years old. Here Thorfinn is 22. He returned home after almost 20 years

Seeing Thorfinn reunite with his family after so long was such a heartwarming moment, especially after everything he had been through.The man watched his father die, spent his entire childhood being molded into a ruthless assassin by the man who had his father killed and spent his adolescence plagued by the memories of the lives he took.

This might be a hot take but I preferred season 2 of Vinland saga over season 1 in almost very aspect. Seeing Thorfinn’s development was incredible and I cried a couple times throughout this season just from how powerful it was.
