Fort Myers Beach residents fed up with violence around Lani Kai Island Resort

People in Fort Myers Beach are urging town leaders to put a stop to violence after a man was killed outside the Lani Kai Resort.

We were there in June. Not one issue. Everyone was very nice. We really enjoyed our time there. It was very pleasant. Sad to hear of all the issues they've had.

Crime is escalating everywhere....never had a problem there or felt unsafe...no comparison to Miami, which was awful 😕

we stayed there once it was nice the staff where friendly and very professional the atmosphere was pleasant outside everything seem good me and my family had a great time thanks lani kai for wonderful stay

The Lanai Kai is disgusting. We went like ten years ago I think and it was okay. Not the greatest but we didn’t have many options and it had been a clean room to sleep in after a long day at the beach. The rooms were okay. Then we decided to go again like five years ago. As soon as we got to the suit, shit was wrong. Our door didn’t lock at all. Someone had to come change our doorknob and lock. My guess is police busted it in? The sliding door to the balcony wouldn’t open. The ac was leaking everywhere. And you’ll have music BLARING until the wee hours . We had a homeless man sleeping under our balcony on the picnic table (again, I’ve got pictures). The next morning, I pulled the sheet off the bed and noticed a bug and freaked out, I looked in the crease on the side of the mattress and there were TONS of bed bugs, both seemingly dead and very much alive. We immediately made this clear to the desk. They refunded our trip for the weekend and following two days and we left, since every other hotel was booked up (surprisingly, the lanai kai was nearly empty. Hmm. I wonder why). It’s a 15 minute drive from the hotel to our house. We turn on our street and I see an alert pop up on my grandmas phone. My grandmother’s card had been recharged for everything. No notice. No permission. My grandmother calls and this dipshit wench of a manager says she’s recharged everything because they had an exterminator come out and he found no signs of bedbugs. I took the phone, told them they cannot just recharge the credit card with no notice or permission after agreeing upon a refund. I then asked to have the number to this exterminator. How they managed to get one in and determine that within 15 minutes is beyond me. She refused. And claimed that WE already had the bedbugs. Um. No, honey. I said “We have photos of all the mattresses and bedbugs. There’s no way that many would be there if WE brought them. There was none on our belongings and yet every mattress and the couch was full of them”. Okkkaaay. She argued and I said “alright well we’re going to drop our stuff at home then we’re going to the bank to report a fraudulent charge and get a charge back case filed”. She immediately changed her tune and went “I’ll honor the refund, but please don’t come back here”. I said “it’s sad that you actually think we’d come back. Not only will we not come back, but we’ll be telling everyone we know not to go”. I made a post on their reviews on Facebook with pictures and they threw a tantrum. I don’t know if that bitch was actually the new manager. If so, I have a feeling that’s why the place went downhill.

I had the unfortunate news just stay there 3 days before the shooting. I paid almost $500 Tony the manager did take off $75 because of the roaches broken bureaus Tub broken the place was a dumpwhen I called him when I got back home I ask for more off and he said no I will say the food was good there. My car was hit the first day buy a drunken kid they said they said they tried to get ahold of me but the number was to my daughter-in-law's they could have left a note on my doorwhen I went out the next day and so are all the damage to my car I was in shockthey had me call the police even though Tony knew everything the kid was drunk and didn't detain really you let a drunk teenager back on one of those shame on you Tony. And the sheriff was a jerk and very unprofessional to me shame on you Tony and Larry supposedly the CEO!?
