I love this! You probably know, but just in case you didn't, the writers would often write "we need to TECH the TECH", "but captain, if we tech the tech the tech will tech" in the scripts, and someone would go over it and add all the technobabble later. Charlie Stross talks about it in his blog.

Most of the time Star Trek "technobabble" makes sense in a "broad strokes" kind of way. Like if they mention inertial dampeners, nanoprobes or Dirac jumps there's usually a pretty good explanation as to what the thing is and it makes sense for what it's doing in that scene.
