BEST WRITING TOOLS FOR AUTHORS // Tools To Help Write Your Book

These are my best writing tools for authors! I have achieved a lot last year and these are my favourite writing tools that helped me write my books in 2020 and they can also help you write your own book. I go through the best writing software and writing apps I relied on, as well as services to help you edit, format, and self publish your books on amazon or other platforms. Last but not least, my favourite writing tool I discovered in 2020, the AlphaSmart Neo2 digital typewriter, which helped me write all of the words for this year's NaNoWriMo.

A look at my favourite writing tools that helped me achieve my writing goals last year. What are some of your favourite writing tools? 😊

I used one of those in my high school typing class! Never thought I'd see one again, lol.

Thanks for putting another one of these out. It was you who originally turned me onto scrivener and it's been super useful to be able to jump back and apply retroactive fixes to my bloated and meandering excuse for a plot ;) Stay safe and keep doing stuff till the plague rolls over x

I am currently working on my third book and my Hobonichi has been so helpful--how cool to see someone else mention it, too! And I LOVE the idea of giving yourself a little star for reaching your writing goal of the day, that's great and I am totally going to start doing that. <3

Delightful. It really should have gotten a lot more views than it did.

I really want to write one of my novels ideas this year - at least a first draft. So this definitely gives me some courage to just start, by using some of these tools.

The Neo2 is a great distraction free device for writing. It’s also one of the only battery only devices for writing so if you go camping a lot off-the-grid then please try it. I used it for years but had to stop when the transferring software stopped working when I upgraded my Mac OS. My advice is to check compatibility with the software before buying one. Also, Scrivener is high in functionality but the interface needs a redesign. You will get lost in poorly implemented functions. I’ve moved my writing to Pages on the Mac but will return to Scrivener when the interface is tidier. I believe my OCD and protectionism is incompatible with Scrivener.

Since English is not my native language, I rely on Grammarly quite a lot so I can't wait to try ProWrittingAid and see how it compares.
The typewriter seems a bit too much though. They may be easy to acquire now but, since they're no longer being manufactured, that will no longer be true at some point in the future. Besides, even if you work on a computer, there's a way to make it completely distraction-free as well: Cold Turkey Blocker/Micromanager/Writer. Unlike a physical typewriter that you can just set aside and ignore, Cold Turkey Writer is absolutely brutal, you can't do ANYTHING with your computer until you achieve your writing goal, not even uses Escape, the Windows key, or even open task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL so you really have no choice but to write.

Well, this certainly was the last place this video game nerd expected to hear about anything related to Hobonichi, but Shigesato Itoi is like that. As for me, I've deeply appreciated and treasured my Alphasmart Neo 2, but it was the King Jim Pomera DM100 that REALLY revolutionized my writing lifestyle and creative process. IMO the Pomera DM 100 is to the Freewrite Traveler as the Alphasmart line is to the standard Freewrite, just a better less expensive version of the ultra high end but inexplicably deliberately functionally diminished Astrohaus products, though the drawback with the DM100 is getting used to that Japanese keyboard, but its a simple process to adjust and has genuinely changed my life.

Your link for Vellum did not work for me. I searched it and I found it. It said Available only for Mac. I have a PC.

Watching people talk about everything they use makes me feel really old school... I really just use paper if I'm not typing, and I only use word. Scribner (?) has caught my interest, but, I dunno. Does it really make that much more of a difference than Word?

I have to start writing again, but i get so incertain. I never wrote in english and the bigger helpers and tools are mostly in english...and i'm not confident yet to start writing in english (i wrote my master thesis, but needed many edits and is not the same writing scientific prose and fiction). Anyone has some tips?
