I was using Google docs for years and it was well and good for short stories but quickly became cumbersome once i started taking notes, cutting certain parts with plans to reintegrate later, rewriting, editing, finding chapters, loading docs over 300 pages.
Since Microsoft word is now always online/yearly subscription I took a gamble with scrivener and i kinda hate the learning curve but all the problems i had with docs are smoothed out. It's kinda nice to be able to mark chapters cleanly

Interesting to see a lot of inspired writers. I used to write poems as a teenager. I’ve written some erotic stories for my lover to arouse her. I had them read to a writer (journalist) and she said it was bad. I am reading “A ladder to the sky” J. Boyne. Great book, about writers. It also shows how twister famous writers are, the environment, their ego. I understand for them it’s a leaving.
It’s like painting, music, writing is an art, a form of expression. There are great masters and there are amateurs. Some love master paintings, some don’t mind getting a painting from an amateur. Same with music. Same with writing.
I’d like to get back to writing just for the pleasure of it. I have a plot, and I want to see how far i can develop it. I don’t have any writing background. I’m French, so english is my second language. I did not attend famous schools in England. Writing was never my intended profession. I consider it as a hobby.
So if i write a novel that holds together, that is engaging enough for 1 reader to finish it, that i had some help with a software, and AI, am I a writer?
Are todays’ writer using Scrivener writer or should they use paper and ink or a type writer and a candle?
Isn’t Scrivener or these app helping them be more organized and productive?
Conclusion: Thank you for this video to help us make a decision on which writing tool to use to write.

Chris, what are your suggestions for a software tool for an illustration-intensive how-to manual? And if it goes to print, how can software help determine the size of pages, and set-up for printing? Thanks!

Just would like to get into the AI debate here. I love AI, I think it's great, usefull technology. There are things where using the AI makes perfect sense. But also some where if you're using AI for that.. yeah I wouldn't call you a writer.

e.g. You're not sure if your sentence makes sense gramatically etc. Or you're a writer but use text to image AI to create mood boards and to help you visualize places, characters etc that you're writing. This is completely fine. AI here is just a tool that's adding and helping with the creative process

But if you're asking AI to create a bunch of plots for you, characters for you, to write the story for you etc etc. At that point you're no longer writing. You're editing whatever the AI wrote.

A lot of visual artists hate AI with a passion and people get really upset whenever visual art (book cover etc) is by AI. I think that's ignorant. AI is a great tool, not everyone can pay for an artist. And artists don't always do what you ask them or expect from them. An artists isn't going to enjoy it when you ask them to change their art or when you're disppointed because you asked them for a more realistic picture and you got something that looks more anime.

That said, if you claim to be an artist and your art consists of "I wrote this prompt for the AI and then photoshopped it" .. I'm sorry, you're not an artists. (looking at you Shadiversity).

Encouraging authors to use AI for actual creativity is shameful. I won't be visiting your channel again.
