Alot of the chainmail you see or can buy in the States are butted rings (no rivet) and they go to pieces as you use it (plus the meeting heads of rings love to snag hair).

Fun fact, chainmail is starting to return as a cheaper way to armor a cop or emergency services personnel instead of Kevlar. This being that the most common form of attack (even in the US) is by knife rather than gun during 911 calls.

One thing they also did that a lot of reproductions miss is they varies the size of the rings and the density of rings on the garment. Use less metal areas that don't need good protection and use more metal in vital areas

Chainmail armor is only used by guards knights and calvary
