I repair guitars for a career. And by far the most pleasure I have doing my job is when I get to clean up and get working a vintage guitar that hasn't been touched for a family memeber passed and they want to remember them, or it was thier first guitar, what ever the story, the joy on thier face when it's clean is priceless!

🥹 I can also relate to having a guitar-loving father. As a family band, my dad and I use to play hundreds of small gigs together along with my older brothers. One day at a show, I dropped his best guitar at the time: a black Gibson Les Paul I believe. Thankfully nothing cracked, but the neck separated from the body. The moment after I apologize to dad profusely, he replied, “It’s ok, I can fix it 😊”

this has to be a very special present because you did all the work yourself. you could easily have brought this to a guitar shop for restauration, but decided not to because the instrument is special to you and your dad.

That’s crazy, my best guitar is a heavily modified 66 Vox bulldog with a crazy story, the pickups were replaced with 70-80s custom wound Seymour Duncan strat pickups, it was given a 5 way selector, its original selector was switched out for another pot, I had the original tailpiece switched for a bigsby and the tuners are now Grovers, and according to the guy who gave it to me it’s first set of mods were done by THE James Tyler. I can say with whole hearted honesty those guitars are made to last, I can also say that they deserve more love than they get
