Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

"Not all pie sitters cry."

I love that at a certain point, they're not even questioning him for the case, they're genuinely intrigued

'you gotta be shittin' us'
'yeah, like i would make this up'

He totally made it up. Best performance ever.

The most hilarious thing about this is Nacho being the “art patron”

These actors should get Academy Awards for being able to keep a straight face through this gag.

I love how Pryce was probably actually crying from the humiliation of doing the video and Jimmy just works it into the story as a “specialized” cobbler squatter.

Saul's a genius here, intentionally being vague, deflecting and defensive in order to further drag the detectives down the wrong path and away from the truth.

Neat detail: Jimmy keeps on taking sips from his drink to stop making eye contact/to minimise interaction with the police- all to help seem like he’s keeping his client’s details confidential. He makes it seem like an awkward situation, thus making the police think he’s uncomfortable talking about a middle aged nerd making fetish videos.

The best part is the cop on the left constantly looking backwards at the guy and putting it together in his mind

The acting of the policemen are quite superb, it really makes the scene work.
The script is great but the subtle changes in their reaction really helps to sell it.
The range from suspicion, skepticism, utter confusion, incredulity, curiosity to relief/belief. It is a masterclass in acting.

3:07 At this point, their professionalism has gone completely out the window and they are operating on pure curiosity.

"Guys, am I not speaking English here?!"
Bob Odenkirk is so brilliant. He can come up with this stuff on the spot, but when it's written still ACT like he is.

the way Jimmy weaves a tale so curious that he has these cops continually begging for breadcrumbs is amazing

There has got to be a blooper reel for this. There is no way the cast and crew kept straight faces and got this in just a few takes !

You left out the best part when Jimmy is walking out of the courthouse with the guy and he says “You’re gonna have to make a video”

I've rewatched this scene probably more than any other in the BCS series. The way Jimmy strings them along offering barely any details, slowly building their curiosity while giving them nothing, but constantly reiterating the fact that his client is free of any wrongdoing. Then finally, when they are completely on the line and need to know what the "art" is, he drops the words "squat cobbler", which is nonsensical to anyone, but then doubles down and gaslights them making them think they're the ones who are crazy for not knowing what it means. It's such a fantastic scene.

Can't believe these cops had never heard of Hoboken squat cobbler. That's day 1 type stuff

It's genius. He's describing the actual robbery and relationship between Nacho and Pryce but just using different description of what actually happened.

in my opinion, the real trick here, beside this funny story, which is very pleasant, agreed to Jimmy's typical story-telling, is in fact how he is able to bring the conversation from a very messy place for his client where the cops pointed out drugs, to a trivial situation, where the cops completly forget the basic purpose of the interview. Godlike jimmy

I love how the cop on the left sits upright when Jimmy first mentions Squat Cobbler. He *needs* to know more, his curiosity has fully taken hold.
