To stop dust spreading, I usually fix up a 100mm flexi vent and an in-line extractor with a flex and 13A plug fitted to suck air from the dusty room out of a conveniently located window. If you stick a sheet of polythene over the doorway, you get a negative pressure zone in the dusty room and no dust escapes. Works great with paint fumes and MDF dust, plaster dust etc. For best effect, cover the window with a sheet of board with a 100mm vent fitted in the middle to attach the pipe to.

Excellent example. Whacking at it by hand works. But this is superbly demonstrated

I originally started out looking on youtube for videos on removing tiles from a solid wall - I've now done that and I'm now looking at vids on how to remove plaster and render which was in a very poor state afterwards. It seems one job leads to another.

My plaster looks exactly like this. I’ll be removing in the next couple of weeks, deep joy!

Haha! THis was great. Finished doing this job a minute ago thanks to this video. Believe me, a hammer and a chisel do a good job, but I'm getting the job done in a single day! Thanks!

Any tile-laying videos?

I get excited over this. Just borrowed my super's Hilti chisel hammer and am looking forward to demo some walls and ceilings!

I'd love to know what you do afterwards to make the bricks look nice if you want to leave them exposed! Have you got any advice?! We'd love to have the bricks exposed on the chimney breast wall. Thank you!

Interesting point about cleaning the drill afterwards with the air, very good advice, not hard to see why your drill is 10 plus years old. Don't forget the tip for greasing the shank of the chisels that go into the chuck of the drill, will save wear on the chuck mechanism and chisel shank also.

Thank you so much. I recently found writing on the plaster in my attic which I need to remove immediately. I bought one of those chisels. Will come in handy.

My friend did the same job in he's house but he had plastic door with zipper you can tape in front of the door in the room you where to work in. Saved him tones of cleaningwork. Dont know where he got it from though.

Thanks for video. We have a retaining wall outside in our back yard. I want to chip the plaster off it and just paint the wall white. Parts of the plaster comes away easy (probably from the damp) other parts is rock solid. What's the best way to try to get it back to nearly the brick work? SDS drill and patience? :) Oh its dry dash so white sand with white pebbles then behind that is a scratch coat.

Ive a radiator where the intake pipe recesses into the wall (plaster not drywall). It seems like the pipe is leaking inside the wall, as the surrounding plaster is damp and soft. Whats the best way to dig out the plaster so I can repair the pipe, without risking damaging the pipe further?

Firstly thanks for the vids, some great ones. I am about to remove tiles in my bathroom ready for new ones to be fitted, hopefully all will be plain sailing, if not and I have to remove the plaster what's the best way forward? Can I just apply the adhesive to the wall and tile as normal?

Please reply as soon as possible. I'm going to scrape out the plaster as the water has destroyed it. I'm planning to keep that part of the wall bare with only the grey cement covering the bricks. Then I'm going to paint over it to give it a rough texture. Would this be advisable not for the aesthetic look but for the overall maintenance of the wall? As in there are no risks keeping it that way?
