Great demo and explanation I was a young boy when my dad was redoing our home back in ‘64. The house was built in 1908. Lot of work

Excellent video. My husband and I did 2 bathrooms over that had the old plaster mesh and slats. I initiated it 🤪 what a process.

When I demo'd my shower I was surprised to find it was plaster & lath. I could do 20 full power swings with a hammer and only make a tiny hole. It was a bit thicker than yours in the video. After demo'ing about 4 square feet by hand I gave up and bought a medium sized hammer drill from the big box store. Saved me an enormous amount of time and probably my elbows and wrists too. With the point chisel attachment it hammer drilled through the plaster like butter. Then I just pulled it off in sections. I dealt with the wire mesh with my sawzall after I made a line of holes with the hammer drill.

Thanks so much for the video this is excellent! My home was built in 1910 and I worry about doing a few rooms due to lead paint. Is this something you had to worry about for this video?

Good to know. How do you insulate it after taking the wall down? What material and method would it be?

What should also be mentioned is that a lot of the times plaster has asbestos in it. I've renovated 4 homes with lath/plaster and the plaster came back positive for chrysolite asbestos 3 out of 4 times.

Hello home repair tutor.
I have a pebble dash wall. An the upstairs has water coming through wall.
It is a bedroom but years ago was q bathroom. Iv ow has the soil pipe from outside removed an patched up from outside . Finally the walls inside became dry.. I think I had thin render around the pipe fitting.

Anyway now I painted the inside of the room an the paint is not drying. It is wet in the place that use to be damp.
Any ideas what's going on or how I could dry the paint

I got a question about drywall compound. How to prevent from bubbling up? I use pre-mixed compound.

Absolutely do not use a circular trash can. You will miss the can with the majority of the falling plaster. Get a trash can, new if necessary, that has flat sides that can abut the wall more completely. This is a massively messy job, and any attempt to contain the mess will pay off. Remember, these walls will probably also have lead paint in them, that will get mixed in with the plaster dust during demolition. A temporary "zip wall" to contain the mess to one portion of the room is also a worthwhile investment. At least a few plastic drop cloths taped to the ceiling, if zip wall isn't in your budget.

That old knob a tube wiring… can really get an idea of how old the house is

Should you test for lead in an old wall like that?

I have learned so much from this channel!! How about a video on removing those old-fashioned hideous pink, blue or green (usually bordered with black) tiles from a bathroom wall & doing a more modern painted wall? Thanks!!
