What the 5800X Should Have Been: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU Review & Benchmarks

preview_player
Показать описание
AMD's Ryzen 7 5700X CPU follows-up the R7 5800X, but at $300 instead of the original $400+ price-point. That puts the R7 5700X vs. the i5-12600K, primarily, but also AMD's own R5 5600.

This review and benchmark of the AMD R7 5700X CPU tests the new AMD release vs. the R7 5800X, i5-12600K, R7 3700X, R7 2700X, the AMD R5 5600, the 5600X, and more. The CPU market has flooded recently as AMD has scrambled to counter Intel, and that's showing in the launch where AMD has spanned the budget market up to the mid-range. The high-end is still occupied just by the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X, but the company is currently working toward its launch of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D (which we'll review soon, hopefully!). In this review, we're focusing on if the R7 5700X is worth it for gaming or for production applications, and where it makes the most sense. To us, the R5 5600 makes sense as the best middle-ground option for gaming as delivered by AMD, while Intel is still fighting hardest with its i5-12400 and 12600K.

I'm so excited to see the Gamers Nexus benchmark on the 5800X3D. I think it's really remarkable how you test all the meaningful use scenarios.

The crazy part to me is how close to 5800X performance the 5700X is while using HALF the Wattage. Wow!

upgrading from 2700 to this. did the mobo bios update on MSI.

Same power draw (important for an ITX Build), same Core Count, over 50% increase single thread performance over the 2000 series. Should last me another 4 to 5 years. I’m super happy with it!

Definitely a little late to the market for a product like this, but it’s a nice upgrade for someone with an older Ryzen CPU I suppose. These will probably get discounted regularly.

Thanks Steve, solid review. I started on a 300 series board with an r3 1400, snagged a 3300x and now I'll finish on the 5700x. I'll ride that cpu into the sunset just like my old Sandy Bridge before.

I would love if, for power consumption, there was a chart showing the total watts consumed by the CPU over its entire render cycle. For example, the i3-12100 had the lowest power consumption in the 5 minute blender test, but took approximately twice as long to render the GN logo in blender compared to the 5700X. I think it would be a better overall representation of power efficiency.

I think that the power efficiency should’ve been talked about more. I have a pc in a Velka 3 case, which the largest cooler it can fit is a Noctua L9. The fact that I can have an 8 core/16 thread behemoth in that case that draws less power than my current R5 3600 is insane

These are way too late, but they should push older (1000, 2000) Ryzen users over the edge to upgrade, which is what AMD wants. Great work as always, GN team!

It’s absolutely nuts how only 1 or 2 of those CPUs is a quad core. I can remember when seeing a 6 core in review tables was astounding.

Bought a 5800X when the price dropped to upgrade a 2600X on a B450. Just extending the life of the system, don't regret the decision in the slightest, great chip.
Edit: typos

Whole reason why I am sticking with AMD is because my X370 board from Asus supports the 5700X. Allowing me to finally upgrade from 1st gen Ryzen while using the same motherboard.

I have a R5 3600 system and I think it is a worthy upgrade to switch to R7 5700x. Significant increase in core count and clock speed while being a 65w TDP chip.

Ive been on the 3600x since 2020 and it was $215 back then. Once I saw the 5700x drop to $198 yesterday, I knew I had to jump on it. Great price to performance and a great last AM4 cpu to hold me over until AM5 evolves a little more!

I'm still running an r5 2400g, and it's nice to know I have an affordable upgrade path which will keep my system relevant for a few more years. The 5800x was just a bit too pricey for what it offered and the 5600x just wasn't compelling enough a jump in performance. This hits a nice sweet spot for my niche case.

AMD knew its market. I have a x370 with a 1700x. With the updated bios release and 5700x release, this was a no brainer choice to upgrade. Paired with a 6950XT, I hope to be quite happy for quite a few years.

I just purchased the 5700X here in the UK for £159. Along with another 16GB of DDR4 3600 Ram. I'm chuffed. A really nice wee upgrade from the R7 2700(non-X), which is still a decent budget offering second hand. But emulation has seen major improvements on my end.
Still rocking an RX 580 8GB for now. Enjoying Lies Of P atm.

I would love to see some VR benchmarks! VR takes big rig and it would be nice to know which parts perform well in VR. If you have addressed elsewhere why you don’t benchmark VR I’d love to be referred to that. However, VR has become quite popular again. Thank you for the excellent and otherwise thorough review as always!

The 5000 series launch is so weird that I thought this was already out

The 5700X should of came out over a year ago imo.

Really glad I opted for the 5600 instead of the others. The cost is much more justifiable.
