Watch this before you buy Nikon P1000 #shorts

Watch this before you buy Nikon P1000 or Nikon P900 or another long focal length camera lens. I bought an Opteka telephoto lens which comes with a 2X Barlow that will get me a 2600 focal length very close to what Nikon P1000 has.

Nikon. I will never forget when it first came out. People were zooming all the way in and when they did that it would have the dot in the middle with a ring around it. These people were going crazy saying that those planets and stars were angels and how we all have been fooled. Lol. I just would tell them to buy a cheap $200 telescope and look again. They do have a really good zoom though. I thought about buying one and then i thought about taking a vacation. Vacation with the family won.

Nikon- smaller and has image stabilization.
If you have very stable hands, you can take photos without tripod.
Just saying it worths it's money.

This is all relative. Are you comparing this equipment vs a handheld digital camera that doesn’t require connections to other devices for setup? You would only pick the other for astrophotog unless u want to carry that around the city

Not comparible. P1000 is a camera, it can shoot all kinds of photos. Yours only for looking at stars.

A telescope or anything more dedicated like this telezoom lens and a P1000 serve absolutely different purposes.

But i would not take any of those - P1000 too limited and big, the cheap telelens basically the same issue - no autofocus or stabilizer so it would only serve as pseudo telescope

Great information Ray! I’m staying away from the DSLR route for now though. I have a new planetary camera. It just arrived today (ZWO ASI178MC). I know already that it’s probably a bit noisy for DSOs as it’s uncooled but I’ll try it out on various targets just for fun.

Dude. That bulky Opteka is a cheapy model with low quality optics compared to the Nikon lens. You pay the Nikon for convenience, tech & quality. Not the other way round.

That's a nice alternative to the P1000. I wonder if you can capture planets with it.

Hi Ray, I'm think of buying camera, a telescope and also a microscope (thinking of svbony sv605 or slightly higher) . Not the expensive type but considerablygood. I'm thinking of buy nikon p1000. So that I can have extra zoom and a camera. But I'm not sure if there's lens adaptor for bridge camera for microscope.

I did changed my mind after saw your video.
