Hey, it’s your foraging bff and let’s talk about how to identify candy cap mushrooms - the dessert mushroom that smells that maple syrup.

1. The latex that comes out is cloudy white, like skim milk, and never changes color!
2. The cap is often ruffled, so not perfectly circular and it feels dry and a bit roughened, sometimes people compared it to the roughness of an orange
3. The stipe is very fragile and hollow
4. The odor is sweet - kind of link fenugreek when fresh and strongly like maple syrup when dried
5. The colors can vary a bit but should be brownish-reddish but can be paler than the ones I have found
