The Home Secretary Priti Patel has said the government is "sorry if people feel there have been failings" to provide adequate protective clothing to many health workers. Doctors’ leaders have warned that medical workers’ lives are being put at risk due to a lack of personal protection equipment. It comes as deaths in UK hospitals from coronavirus rose by more than 900 in the last 24 hours. Many more people are thought to be dying in care homes and in the community. Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News reports from Science Editor David Shukman, Health Correspondent Laura Foster, Home Affairs Correspondent Tom Symonds and Political Correspondent Ben Wright.

"Sorry if people feel..." That's no apology, that's an insult.

"I'm sorry if you feel like" is a big red flag for a toxic person, how telling.

The problem isn't that people feel there have been failings. It's that there have been failings.

That’s frankly disgusting! Tbh all governments are having problems fighting Coronavirus but to hear a health secretary try and blame NHS staff for “wasting” PPE and probably catching the infection at the pub and not on their job (as if they had even time for being elsewhere) is a new level of vile.

Matt Hancock suggesting that protective clothing is "wasted"??? How dare he! Maybe if he is so critical of their work he should work with the infected!

Matt Hancock should be ashamed making comments like that at the end of the day the. Government haven't looked after the NHS for years and now they're doing too little too late.

The home secetary should be ashamed of that pathetic answer, said in a week where NHS staff died of this virus.

I'm fairly sure that they didn't "feel" that they were dying, or "feel" they were working without adequate ACTUALLY WERE working without protection.

A point will be reached when staff decide enough is enough and quit, we will be in trouble then.
